I am a new poster. While I am adept at computer programs (mainly business applications of spreadsheets and word processing) I have no technical skills so I would appreciate as simple an answer as possible. I run an Acer Aspire One notebook computer with Windows XP home edition that has all update and is automatically updated through Microsoft. I have Norton Security Suite vs 3.8 with all current updates through my cable internet service provider.
In late July my security logs showed that Norton had successfully quarantined and completely removed 2 trojan horses and trojan.gen. I wonder if it completely out of my system. Despite running comprehensive scans with Norton and also Malware which have not reported anything more noxious than an occasional tracking cookie, looking at my security logs makes me apprehensive that something is going on that Norton has not dealt with. can someone tell me if the above represent normal activity (even though it wasn't normal activity for the several months of history preceding recent activity) and just represent Norton doing its job? Any additional steps I can take to check for or correct problems?
Perhaps an even more basic question is can a virus exist that Norton cannot detect despite being updated with most recent updates? I am not a heavy "surfer" of the internet and primarily check my email and do my on-line banking and order from Amazon and Barnes and Noble. When I am researching or searching, I only go to sites that are green checked by Norton. I receive a moderate amount of email. Any email that I do not recognize or that is marked "Junk" by hotmail and my other email addresses I delete straight away without opening.
Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.
