I have been trying to delete backed up files (in a D: drive backup set) because the drive has become full. However, when I click on "delete previously backed up files" it only shows me a different backup set (for online storage) and not the one (of D: drive) from which I want to delet the files.
How do I clean up space in D: for future backups?
I also tried to explore D: drive backup region to check if I can individually delete prior backups/files. However, it seems to be stored in a different format with dir names starting with alphabet. How does one connect that to original files that are backed up?
To delete the Backup sets from your D Drive : Choose the Destination Drive as 'D:' from the Manage Backup sets- -> Where tab and then click on 'Delete backed up files' link. It will show you all the backup sets from 'D' Drive
That is exactly what I did; but as I stated in my original post, it does not show me "drive d" when I click on "delete previously backed up files". Instead it shows me the other backup set, and that is clearly some problem/issue with the norton 360. Please provide me a solution to this issue.
Inside that there are 2 directories: "N360_BACKUP", and "RECOVERY".
Within "N360_BACKUP", i see two directories with names of the form {random_sequences}
These directories/subdirectories within "N360_BACKUP" does not have an obvisou correspondence with the files that my backup set files. I do not want to delete all of D: backup. I only selectively want to delete backed up files before a certain time period and also want to delete seleted backup files to minimize the size of past and future backup sets on D:.
Please explain how to identify the files within N360_BACKUP, and how to selectively minimize backup set
As derbomber_redux said please check your Norton Backup Drive : My Computer -> Norton Backup Drive -> Backups on Volume (D: ) and try selective deletion for your backed up files from there
The files I see in Norton_360_backup have random names - i am not sure if you read fully my previos post - I explained that in it. How do I recognize with D:->Norton360_backup what files I am deleting?
DO NOT go to your D Drive (D:->Norton360_backup). Under D Drive the Backup folders will always have random names.
There is another Drive called NORTON BACK UP DRIVE. N360 provides this drive in your Windows Explorer after you configure your backup. (You can see this under My Computer -> Others when you login as Admin). This location lists all the files backed up in different backup destinations and its easily recognizable as well.
Thanks, I tried deleting files from "norton backup" folder. However, when I tried deleting a few files there, it deletion hnags for 5-10 minutes and ends up in folder crashing at times. At other times, it simply does not delete the file/folder
There are few limitations with N360v4 'Norton Backup Drive' folder which are fixed in the N360 v5 Beta Build.
Its better to delete folders one by one for large backup sets. In case if deletion doesn't work, please try again. And don't try any other operation like Restore/Preview when deletion is in progress.
