I want to permanently delete Norton password manager & vault as it’s proving way too cumbersome & keeps resulting in me constantly needing to log into vault & also entering incorrect passwords. Even deleting it seems impossible & as none of the Google guides I’ve looked at seem to have it right.
I’ve reset/deleted my vault & deleted the app from my laptop but every time I try to log onto a website, I still get the “open your vault” message & incorrect passwords being used. Wish I’d never bothered with this, it’s like being held hostage to Norton Security which I’ve found to be a real pain & almost unusable!
Hello @Richard_crawley
You’re reporting that you’ve deleted your Norton Password Manager vault and you’ve removed Norton Password Manager extensions in all browsers…and you still get prompted from Norton to “open your vault”?
Hmm…are you signed in to Norton anywhere?..are you using any password manager?..is your browser built-in password manager enabled?
And you’ve cleared all browsers cache n’ cookies & restarted (not Shut down) your machine?
Any other Norton products?
- Do you have more than one Norton account?
- Do you have more than one Norton Password Manager vault?
Can you post a screenshot of the “open your vault” message & incorrect passwords being used?
Note: Do not post personally identifiable information.
and by “deleted the app from my laptop”…do you mean…you deleted Norton Password Manager browser extension…or, do you mean…you deleted Norton 360 program?
Are you still seeing:
- Do you have more than one Norton account?
- Do you have more than one Norton Password Manager vault?

In answer to your questions;
You’re reporting that you’ve deleted your Norton Password Manager vault and you’ve removed Norton Password Manager extensions in all browsers.
Yes but I’m obviously not doing something I should be! I only use Google Chrome & cannot see any password manager extension, where do I look?
and you still get prompted from Norton to “open your vault”?*
Yes that’s correct.
Hmm…are you signed in to Norton anywhere?..*
No.
Are you using any password manager?*
I was using the standard Win 11 password manager before but Norton seems to have overridden/removed that facility.
is your browser built-in password manager enabled?*
How do I see/access that?
And you’ve cleared all browsers cache n’ cookies & restarted (not Shut down) your machine?*
Yes after every attempt I make at trying to rid myself of Norton security & it’s bl**dy password vault.
Any other Norton products?*
No thank god!
Do you have more than one Norton account?*
No.
Do you have more than one Norton Password Manager vault?*
No, I only tried using it as it came as a freebie, with my EE phone/BB contracts I think! I can still log into my Norton security account but my vault has gone as I now get a message no vault detected when I try & sign into it. But still the prompts appear!
Can you post a screenshot of the “open your vault” message?*
It’s just the Norton Logo & the “open your vault” message appears when I hover/click on the logo.
& incorrect passwords being used?*
The incorrect passwords are ones that were not updated after I stopped using the vault as I got so fed up with having to continually log into the vault to get it to work, this is why I decided to ditch it; never realising it would be so difficult!
Oh!? you’ve been talking about Norton Password Manager on a phone?
I’ve been thinking we’re talking about Norton Password Manager on a computer.
my mistake = Lets ask @peterweb to chime in

Hmm… I see Unlock vault
Totally get you I had the same issue. You need to first log into your Norton account online, go to the Password Manager section, and manually delete all your saved vault data. Then uninstall the Norton app from your device. If it’s still lingering, use the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool (you can get it from their site). That finally wiped it for me.
If you are in fact seeing this on your mobile phone, you need to go into Android Settings > Apps > Norton Password Manager. Then depending on your Android version, look for an Uninstall App button. On my Android 14 device it replaces the Home button at the bottom center of the screen.
Thanks for the tip; Vault already deleted, app uninstalled from laptop so tried the Norton remove & reinstall tool as suggested. Although it seem to do all the things you would expect, the Norton Vault “bug” remains intact & continues to pop up every time I try to log on to any of my websites. I am even thinking of deleting & re-installing Win 11 just to get rid of the bloody thing; never again will I go anywhere near a Norton app!
No not on my phone, on my Win 11 laptop.
Norton Password Manager is free…so, I’m confused…what Windows program &or browser extension…came as a freebie with your phone contracts?
Norton Password Manage on Windows laptop is a browser extension.
By “app uninstalled from laptop”…do you mean…you removed Norton Password Manager browser extension from your browser?
I have one Norton account. I have one Norton Password Manager vault. After I Reset my one Norton Password Manager vault and before removing Norton Password Manager browser extension. Norton Password Manager prompted me here to create a new vault.
Maybe, you’re seeing Norton prompt you to create a new vault?
Please confirm you’ve removed Norton Password Manager browser extension from your browser - Chrome.
Norton Remove n’ Reinstall tool &or Norton 360 Remover tool…do not remove Norton Password Manager browser extension.
Please confirm you’ve removed Norton Password Manager browser extension from your browser - Chrome.
What came as a freebie with your phone contracts?
Norton Password Manager browser extension or Norton 360?
Please confirm you’re not running Norton Private Browser.
Please confirm you’re only running Chrome browser and it’s in Chrome on Windows laptop…that you see Norton pop up every time you try to log on to any of your websites.
Please confirm you’re not running Chrome built-in password manager.
I’m still trying to imagine…“open your vault” message.
I’m still trying to imagine…what Norton Security you’re running since, you wrote you only run Norton Password Manager browser extension…which does not mention “Norton Security” branding.
Hmm… I see Unlock vault (with Norton Password Manager browser extension still on-board.

If you have one Norton account and one Norton Password Manager vault.
Then Reset should delete your vault. Then Norton Password Manager browser extension prompts you to create a new vault.
If there’s no Norton Password Manager browser extension on Chrome…there should be no Norton pop up every time you try to log on to any of your websites on Chrome.
Please confirm you’re not running Norton Private Browser.
Please confirm you’re only running Chrome browser and it’s in Chrome on Windows laptop…that you see Norton pop up every time you try to log on to any of your websites.
Please confirm you’re not running Chrome built-in password manager.

I’ve deleted the browser extensions for Norton &, finally, it’s gone for bloody good. Never dealt with browser extensions before so didn’t even know they existed but no more intervening Norton prompts to open my vault & I’ve even got the Win 11 password manager/prompter back! Thanks to all for your input but what palaver having to jump through so many hoops just to delete an app you no longer want!
Thanks for posting your progress
