Hi. My question is whether the malicious site warning function ( "tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected attack site") in the Firefox 3.10 security options can be left enabled (as Firefox recommends), given that NIS 2009 Safe Search does the same thing. Or should it be disabled to avoid conflict?
I have found this question addressed for antiphishing and the consensus seems to be that browser antiphishing should be disabled when Norton Safe Search is providing the same protection. But I haven't found a recommendation re whether the attack/malicious sites warning should also be disabled.
Hmmm, now I'm getting confused, because the discussion seems to have turned to phishing, and I am specifically seeking guidance on whether I can leave the "suspected ATTACK site" protection on in Firefox -- NOT the "suspected forgery (phishing) site." I have seen plenty of advice to turn off FF's phishing protection when using NIS, and have already done so. What I can't find much guidance on is whether the FF ATTACK SITE protection may similarly conflict with NIS.
Stu, your fist response seemed to suggest leaving this on wouldn't hurt, but after your second post I'm confused... Can you clarify? Thanks.
I confirm what Stu says is correct. I run Firefox 3.0.10 with NIS updated to 16.5. Tthe Suspected Attack Site monitoring in Firefox can be enabled and it does not conflict with the Browser Protection feature in NIS.
Here is the screenshot of the FireFox settings that I have.
In the second post, Stu refers to the Phishing protection in FireFox being turned off. Refer screenshot above.
Please let us know if you need any clarifications.
