Disable NIS/NAV When Installing Applications?

Long ago I got into the habit of disabling my anti-malware software when installing applications and even for Windows Update. I continued this practice when I switched to NIS several years ago.

That was then, this is now. Is it still a good idea to temporarily disable the anti-virus component of NIS when installing software? Particularly when NIS checks out the installer I downloaded and says 'this installer is safe'?

The original reason for disabling anti-malware products was that some of the actions taken by the installer could be misinterpreted as malicious, therefore you wouldn't want your anti-malware product to 'interfere' with the install.
