Disabling background tasks completely / CPU usage

I run Norton 360 v4 on a Vista Home Premium SP2 PC.

Since Norton runs background tasks when the computer is idle and hogs the CPU's resources (ccSvcHst.exe), I tried the following -

1. Set Tasks Scheduling to Monthly and checked Only run at idle time (in Settings).

2. Turned off the Idle Time Optimizer (in Administrative Settings)

3. Set Idle Time Out to 30 minutes (the max. possible; in Administrative Settings)

Despite all this, if I leave the PC idle for a while, the background tasks get activated and quite often I find ccSvcHst.exe using up a lot of the CPU's resources.

There is no way to end the ccSvcHst.exe process (or suspend it with Process Explorer, etc.) (Just curious, will turning Norton Product Tamper Protection off enable me to end / suspend ccSvcHst.exe? But I'm sure that's not the right way to go about this.)

I don't want to want to add any programs that will put Norton into Silent Mode and thereby possibly avoid background tasking, because I'm sure that too isn't the right way of going about this.

How do I permanently disable background tasks?

I did read a few posts in here on this subject but wasn't able to find a conclusive solution.

Please let me know how to disable background tasks or kindly point me to a relevant post in the forum or elsewhere that dealt with this particular issue in N360 products.

Thanks.

In Administrative tools you can plus disable the optimizing feature.

Hi PapauZ.

Thanks for replying. I have turned off the Idle Time Optimizer. Is that what you were referring to or is there something else in Administrative Settings?

No, only this.

Thanks for clarifying! I thought there was no way in N360 of doing this.. oh well...

On a totally unrelated note, how do you quote someone's reply in a forum post? I earlier copy / pasted your reply and typed in "PapauZ wrote:" when I wanted to quote you. lol

In the editor over the format tools (align left, center, right, etc.) there's a button for quoting. Just click on that. :)

Thank you very much!
