Disk Optimizer

Just purchased Norton 360 last week.  Am very disappointed with their support.  Can anyone assist with the disk optimizer?  I get a notice that I need to run PC Tuneup.  Disk Optimizer runs for about 2 seconds and then I get a cancelled message.  How do I get it to run the entire program?  I have Windows XP and just checked for a Norton upgrade.  Any help appreciated.

Welcome,

Can you tell us a bit more about your system? You say you are running XP, which SP is installed? Before you installed 360 did you have a security product installed and running? If so, how was it removed?

What aspect of Norton's support has disappointed you? The staff reads these forums and your comments would help them improve.

Looking forward to your responses

Thank you for your quick response.  I had Microsoft Security Essentials.  I used the add/remove program to uninstall it before I installed Norton 360.

As to the lack of support from Norton, I cannot find a telephone number to call and when I click the "Help" button nothing comes up.  When going to "Get Support" "Nathan" never comes back with an explanation to find a solution for any of my questions.  When giving a brief description on my problem with the disk optimizer and how it cancels he continues asking what I want to cancel.  Frustrating.

Again thank and I await your assistance on the disk optimizer.

I couldn't find the phone numbers either. I don't usually recommend them because the delays are extended and the customer support chat line found here:  http://www.norton.com/chat is much more responsive.

Please do forgive Nathan his programming leaves a bit to be desired and his answers are somewhat less useful.

A couple of questions. Have you run a full scan using 360? If not then that is one things that needs doing. I'd also recommend that you download, install, update and run from the desktop the free version of Malwarebytes scanner found here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free It is Norton compatible so keep it on the desktop for use as a second opinion.

We'll be here when you need us.

Hi aturtle2,

Phone Support is available from this page (you may have to scroll down to see it):

The Optimizer runs the Windows Defragmenter, and it may be that the disk does not require defragmenting at this time.  You can open the Windows Defragmenter and click the "Analyze" button and it will tell you if you need to defrag the volume.
