DlMapper.exe Error - Ghost 14

When booting from the Ghost 14 SRD to restore a complete backup image, I receive the following error message during the Symantec "Checking system requirements..." step:

DlMapper.exe - Application Error

The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) occurred in the application at location 0x004c3cd8.  Click on OK to terminate program.

When clicking "OK", I go immediately to the EULA -- which I accept and the Norton Ghost 14.0 Menu selection screen appears.  However, I can not recover my full image .v2i file (when selecting it via the "View by: Filename" entry of the recovery wizard) and the following error message appears:

Recover My Computer Wizard -- Error E0BC0002:  Object ~ not found.

I have verified the recovery point successfully and I am able to restore individual files via the Recovery Point Browser. -- Just not the complete .v2i image...

Would the DlMapper error cause the Recovery Wizard to not work?  What is DlMapper.exe and where can I find it and can I replace it with a "working" version?

Thanks for your assistance,

Dave

Dave,

You get that error prior to browsing for the image. I'd try a Ghost 15 CD.

Brian,

I receive the same error with the Ghost 15 CD, which I purchased earlier this week.

Also, with Ghost 15 I am not able to execute the "Cold Imaging" backup, but that's another story...

Dave,

That's disappointing. What partitions do you have on your HDs? Drive letters? Have you removed all USB devices?

How much RAM do you have? Have you ever tested it for errors?

Only a single partition C:    160GB  approximently 40GB used

4GB RAM -- never tested but have never had a reason to test due to speed and performance when my system is restored and functioning correctly.

Dell Latitude E4300

Over the last 3 months, I have successfully restored this image 3-4 times, but something got messed up this time....?

I wonder what would happen if you disconnected the harddrive temporarily to see if the SRD will then boot without errors.

If you only have a single partition, where is the image stored?

Boot the Ghost 15 recovery disk on another system to verify it works, I think it will.

If the disk works fine on another system, I like Reds suggestion on trying it with your hard drive disconnected.

What problem do you have trying to make a cold image?

I have a feeling the problems are related.

Dave

The image(s) are stored on an external WD 1.5TB Hard-drive.  I also have an image(s) on a 500GB Seagate drive (100+ days old) and I can not recovery my C: drive from either/any of these images.

Ghost 15 recovery disk boots clean from both a Windows XP system and a Win 7 system.

Cold Image Error Message:  Occurs during the "Analyzing the storage management stack" step of the backup

Back Up My Computer Wizard - Error E7D1001E:  Unable to read from file.  Error 00000001: Incorrect function.

I have executed the SRD with the external (USB) harddrive disconnected and connected -- same DlMapper error in all cases.

I  have even plugged in the USB harddrive just prior to the Analyze - Explore My Computer menu and I do have access to the .v2i file to view or recover individual files. -- just not able to recover the complete .v2i image...

I am also able to copy/paste files & folders from my C: drive to a standalone set of files on the external harddrive.  Which I will restore individually once the Norton Ghost Recovery completes in order to recover my key work/personal file to the most current state that they were prior to WIN XP boot up errors.

I'm guessing you have two 2GB sticks of RAM? Can you remove one to test? I remember reading somewhere where someone had trouble using the SRD with 4GB RAM. Pulling one stick resulted in a working system.

You did not mention why you wanted to recover to begin with. Maybe you are having hardware problems. I would start by running a MEMORY TEST just to rule that out.

HERE is one of the threads I was thinking of.

Memory Test passed successfully.

Why the need to recover:

Windows XP issue where sometimes MS Outlook or IE8 will "lock up" or take an error, where it "comes down/crashes" and leaves me with a Desktop with no Icons or a Taskbar that is visible.  CTRL-ALT-DEL does not invoke any commands, so the "hold the power button down" for 6 seconds is the only remedy.  (a poor one at that.)

On the boot-up, I receive the dreaded missing or corrupt hal.dll message.  I use the SRD and recover a hal.dll file or edit the Boot.ini command to verify the contents of the Boot.ini file.  That has never resolved the issue, so I have a feeling that there is a corrupt registry entry that "occurs" when one of these Windows components goes up in flames.

Being that I don't have a Win XP licensed CD to get to the Recovery Console, I usually just 1)  fire up the SRD, 2) copy/paste key data-files from my C: drive to an external harddrive, 3) Use the Recover my Computer wizard and restore complete .v2i image (upwards of 5 days old)  and 4) bring up Windows and recover key data-files to get as current as possible.

45 minute process that has performed flawlessly in the past....

dhp10,

Despite the normal memory test I'd still try Red's suggestion of removing one RAM module at a time and see if the error disappears.

I thought Red was suggesting disconnecting the internal drive, thats where I thought the problem might be because of the crash in DImapper.

Next time your in windows can you please run partinfo.exe?

It's in the Ghost\Utilities folder and when you run it, it will create a file partinfo.txt.

Please attach that text file here using the attachment button below the text input box.

Dave

Removed one 2GB DIMM and on reboot with the Symantec Recovery Disk, received same DlMapper.exe error.  :smileyindifferent:

I wasn't quite sure of how to create a txt file from the information found from the Support Utilities - Partition Table Operations

This is the information that appeared regarding the single partition for my Dell Latitude E4300

I've also attached the file in case you have the ability to view it....

Thanks

Did you try disconnecting the HDD altogether to see if the SRD works without error?

Removed hard drive from Laptop and using the Ghost 14 SRD, it did boot up cleanly to the SRD menu(s).

Which is good news, but now what?
