Do backups synchronize with the destination

When you regularly use 360 to backup your files, does it synchronize deletions also?  For example,  I backup a bunch of files, two days later I delete some files and then run 360 backup again.  Does the backup still have the deleted files from the earlier backup?

Hi ajs6x,

I copied the following (in italics) from the link below - Norton 360 detects file changes:

http://www.symantec-norton.com/Norton_360_Version_3.0_p49.aspx

Whether you are adding new files or editing existing ones, Norton 360 Version 3.0 will detect what has changed and make the necessary backups without any intervention on your part. Moreover, your files are backed up automatically when your PC is idle so you are not disturbed while working, surfing the web or playing games.

I understand how the backups happen, I am just curious if the backup maintains a history.  Lets assume that 360 is scheduled to run backups daily.  If I create a file on day 1 and 360 backs it up when I change it on day 2 does it overwrite the backup or do I now have the ability to restore a deleted file to day 1 or day 2?  Also, if I delete the file on day 3 when 360 runs for that day, are the earlier backups deleted from the backup location.

I checked with Yogesh_Mohan; if I understood correctly, when you delete a file and Norton 360 registers and synchronises this change, and then you want to restore that file the next day, then you cannot retrieve the file.

You would, as Yogesh said, need Ghost for that function.

Hi ajs6x,

I think, the post of Yaso is bit confusing for you(May be, it's a confusion from my part). Sorry for that, and I would like to clarify it in better way. When you delete a file from your computer, you can restore it if the file is still present in your Backup. You will be able to restore only the latest version of the file which Norton 360 has backedup. You cannot restore any of the previous versions of the file. Deleting the file from your computer doesn't means that it will get deleted from backup. For that, you have to delete the file manually from backup.

Yogesh

Thanks for the clarification.  Norton Save & Restore allows you to restore from multiple versions (you can define how many to keep).

From what you have described, it sounds like you would have to periodically "clean up" your backups if you really wish to delete older files.
