Does Norton 360 have the registry cleaner and other questions?

Hi. I have used Norton 360 for a while now. It ran out and I didn't have the money ready to keep it going and install the newest version. So... I had a few questions after looking at store profiles online about norton 360.

- Does Norton 360 have the registry cleaner? Or has that been moved to only the Norton Utilities product? (I found it works with installed programs and cleans some stuff left behind. Eg: Installing a program. restarting, running registry cleaner mentions something about the last program. I recommend it.)

- What is the newest version of Norton 360? Ver.21.0?

- When I bought my last version of Norton 360, it was the special edition and had 3 extra months of protection. Is this product available year-round? Or only around the December holiday seasons and Boxing Day or other sales? I bought the version with 3 months protection last year in January when it was on sale, but I can't find anything else online. I'm trying to get the extra protection to get back into the renewal process being in alignment with the year end.

- Since I have to renew Norton 360 now, If it was still installed and working, could a person add the time to their account? Or does a person have to wait until it is completely expired? Eg: I have 30 days left, I get a 1 year or 1 year and three months license. Is it ok to just add it? Or do I have to wait for the 30 days to end?

- Is there anything said about Windows XP being supported by Symantec, certain products or what the cut-off is?

Thanks.

Hi, SyncroScales. This page may give you more of an idea on the curent features of 360.

You'll get the best deal by shopping around online and in retail stores, and if you have a current install, the best way is to wait until a day or two before renewal is due, and on the Renew tab on the UI just check I have a key to enter.

Registry cleaners are not necessary these days, and can do more harm than good, by sometimes removing critical system files.

I'd suggest using CCleaner to clean your files, and leaving the registry alone.

As F4E says ..... In my opinion you don't need the extra utilities since you can get free ones that are more under your control.

You can save a lot of money by shopping for reputable suppliers on the internet or in the flyers local computer stores send out.

Not as big a saving as it is sometimes but you can get NIS 2014 3 PC for $36 from Amazon for example.

But be ultra-careful of places like eBay where unfortunately you can encounter unscrupulous sellers of used products or Keys to renew ..... If the price is too good to be true .....

So does the current version of Norton 360 have the registry cleaner?

It seems to only eliminate registry entrys from programs that have installed something and are not what is installed. It has been a useful tool.

Norton 360 seems to have the start-up manager. That is useful also. I don't want to have more programs installed. I like it being kept minimal.

I will not buy Norton keys or anything else from ebay or somewhere.  Only a retail outlet. If I want free, I will use Microsoft Security Essentials or other products that are online that are reputable and a web-site like cnet has download links to and a review.

- Does anyone know about these Norton 360 special editions? With the extra 3 months? Are these available year-round or only when it is the end of the year holiday seasons and sales?

- How secure is Windows XP at this point because in general, it is not supported (I doubt Microsoft has not had deals with certain clients to support Win XP, but not the general public). I have read the news stories about the older OS's, eventually someone will hit them with malware within about 1 year. Any info about XP's support from Symantec?

Hi, SynchroScales. Norton 360 does have a registry cleaner which is relatively benign, but again there are no guarantees.

Registry cleaner benefits are at best questionable. I've never used one, and have never needed to.

In answer to your questions about deals, Norton do have specials throughout the year, so it's wise to keep an eye out for those.

Here is an info page re XP support from Norton.

So these special editions are just promotions throughout the year? The ones with the extre 3 months or so of subscriptions...

Thanks for the links and information everybody.

SyncroScales

I don't know about extra subscriptions but there is a Norton 360 Gold Edition that appears from time to time and in different countries. I've seen it referred to here by UK customers

http://www.norton360online.com/faq-norton-360/norton-360-gold-installation.html

and I've heard of people getting it at Frys stores in the USA

I can't find any information on it on the Norton US website ......

There isn't any information about it on the UK site, either.

I saw ....

http://uk.norton.com/now/en/GB_SITE/pu/images/Promotions/2013/gold/Norton_Gold_LP.html

<<  great free apps and special offers available to Gold customers  >>

But not a dickeybird about what it does differently except to say << Includes Norton™ Family - helps to protect your kids online >>

The wiki on N360 indicates that Gold was a credit cardlike thing in a box with 5 alphanumeric KEYs on it ..... which would make it sound familiar ....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_360#Version_6.0

Gold is not mentioned here http://www.norton360online.com/norton-360-editions.html but if the above is right was it a precursor to Norton 360™ Multi-Device or Norton One?

Hi, SyncroScales. Frankly if you don't HAVE to have the extra features that 360 offers, you'll often get special deals on NIS, especially when the new version is due. Often around August/September.

That's what I've done and got a one user 3 PC offer, for around $25 AU.

Well worth shopping around.
