Why is Norton not blocking Dos commands in CMD or powershell? For example ping, Tracert both work and neither CMD or powershell ask for internet permission. Although I understand these commands are used and needed by network administrators, surely they can also be used to gather information by third parties.
Hello. Answering the question WHY, Norton doesn’t block these commands is their question to answer as they would have to explain how their products are coded. We all know that information is proprietary and won’t be released for general public consumption.
For general usage one must understand what these commands are used for, within and outside of the average users usage. Here is Microsoft’s take on theses:
Understanding that Microsoft has built-in Core Isolation that will prevent abuses of these services they do not want to have themselves nor third party software blocking the usage. The Windows OS is absolutely dependent on their usage to a high level for usage by system admins, cloud services, etc. Breaking those abilities would also break the OS as well as third party services provided by companies such as Norton. Who use AWS and Google cloud services extensively.
