This is not a new problem... If I try to download driver updates from Nvidia (there are other examples, but this has happened repeatedly) when the file is 99% done it hangs indefinitely. I don't know what Download Intelligence is doing to it, but it never finishes and I cannot not stop it or kill the process. This happens on Firefox or IE. The only way out is to hit the reset button on my computer. I am concerned that doing so is going to trash my Windows install at some point. If that happens NIS will not be going back on. Disabling Download Intelligence stops the issue, but NIS gives me warnings to re-enable it. There are days I feel like I would rather take me chances with a virus.

Hi,
I haven't seen this problem and I've just updated my drivers in the last coule of weeks. Have you considered using the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool to be sure you have a clean copy of NIS on your computer?

Be sure to save your identity safe data before you do anything else.
Keep us posted

Did you download them directly from the Nvidia website? I have repeated this issue on 2 computers. I'm sure there are likely other factors that contribute to the problem. For now I have installed DownloadStudio and download with that, bypassing the problem. I do not really have time to deal with the uninstall/reinstall and don't expect much from that as this machine has been reformatted since the first time it happened and the issue persists.
This problem seems to happen whenever a "large" .exe file is downloaded using Firefox or IE. A suggested workaround tried was to turn off proxy settings in Firefox, which did not work. The only way to end the Firefox task is to re-boot the system, which is not a wise thing to do too often. Any suggestions would be helpful. I am running Norton Internet Security 2013 on a Windows 8 system.
