Hello,
Just wondering what the options are for purchasing Norton Antivirus 2011 for laptops that do not have a CD or DVD Drive.
Hopefully someone can help me out!
Thanks,
Cbel

Hi cbel1990,
Welcome to the Norton Community. This is no problem as you can purchase NAV (Norton Antivirus) from any online vendor of your choice and download the NAV installer from the links we can provide here. Note that when you purchase NAV from any online vendor you will be given both a product key and a link to download NAV but all you really need from that purchase is the product key.
The links we provide for NAV here will always be more up to date than what you will receive from another online vendor. Once downloaded you simply install NAV and activate it with the product key you received with your purchase.
The latest English version of NAV can be found here. Please let us know if you need a different language.
Also be aware that if you have any other security software installed currently it will need to be uninstalled and you will need to run a removal tool for that product before installing NAV. Doing this will prevent any conflict between the two security programs. Let us know if you need help in finding a removal tool for your current security software as we have links for most of the common ones.
Also be sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for NAV shown here.
NAV also does not include a firewall so please be sure that you have another good firewall. If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 you could use its firewall but this is not recommended if you have XP since that firewall is an inbound firewall only. Another option would be if you want to consider NIS (Norton Internet Security) instead of NAV as it does have a very good two way firewall.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
Allen
Thanks for your quick reply.
Is it possible to use a Norton Antivirus CD that has already been purchased or should i return it to the store I bought it from and follow the instructions you gave me?
Cbel
you already told that you have a laptop that you dont have cd/dvd drive :( so you should download it manually :(
Hi cbel1990,
Yes you can use the CD that you purchased. All you need from that CD package is the product key which came with it.
You can download NAV at the link I supplied before and after NAV is installed you can use the product key from your CD purchase to activate it.
Before you proceed, do you have any other security software installed currently? If so you need to uninstall this and run a removal tool to remove it completely before installing NAV. If you need help in locating a removal tool please let me know and I will help locate one for you.
Otherwise you can install NAV at the link I left before. After installation it will ask you for activation and you can use the product key from your CD package to activate it. If this is your first Norton subscription you will be prompted to create a Norton Account. Just follow the prompts to complete this. Your Norton account will then track your subscription for future reference.
After you install NAV, be sure to run Live Update repeatedly (rebooting as requested) until it reports there are no more updates.
Please let us know how it goes.
Can you confirm what version of Windows you have and what firewall you will be using?
Best wishes.
Allen
Thank you!

My laptop is now safe :)
