Driver error after updating new version of Norton IS

Hi everyone, I recently installed a new version of Norton Internet Security onto my laptop and after it finished removing the old version I discovered that my (D:) drive is no longer working. I have tried resetting the laptop to an earlier date and uninstalling and reinstalling it with add new hardware wizard without sucess and I receive this error message: Windows cannot load the decive driver for this hardware. The drive may be corrupted or missing. Code 39.

It does not recognie any cds or dvds of any kind and will not recognize our mp3 devices or phones. It will however recognize my Canon Powershot.

Is this something I can fix or do I have to take it in for repair?
