Drop-down menus not displaying

Good day,

I've had an ongoing issue with Norton Security where none of the combo-box / drop-down menus will display.  I'm using the latest Windows 10 Pro version 22H2 (build 19045.2364).  I tried Norton Remove and Replace (twice).  Both times, the initial re-installation had working drop-down menus.  Once Live Update ran, there was a Norton program update and all drop-downs ceased to function.  For some of the drop-downs, I can tab into them and select items using the arrow keys on the keyboard but others do not work at all.

I'm assuming, based on the above behaviour, this is a Norton problem and not a Windows problem.  This problem does not affect any other program or application.  I'd appreciate a solution or suggestions outside of re-install unless there's a different way to do that other than that mentioned above.

Thanks.

So I’ve now tried this 2 ways over the last day with the same results.

In the first try detailed above, I used the Norton RNR program which downloads the installer after it removes and restarts the machine. Version 22.20.5.39 is what was installed and then updated 3 times.

I tried the process again today and used Norton RNR to remove only. Incidentally, it does a lousy job of cleaning up the system. I then went through various system folders and deleted all remnants I could find. I did not do anything with the Registry. On the advise provided, I then restarted the machine and went directly to My Norton account and downloaded fresh from there and it does the exact same thing.

In both attempts, 22.20.5.39 is installed first and it’s not like I’m selecting an old installer. These were programs freshly grabbed from Norton within the last 24 hours.

Indeed as peterweb and I have posted. Get your fresh install from within your Norton account. Delete the old installer that you are using.

Why are you starting with version 22.20.5.39? After uninstalling and restarting your computer, you should be logging into your Norton Account and downloading the latest version from there. That should start you with at least a 22.22.x.x version.

I just tried the Norton Remove and Re-install again. Once again, the initial install works normally and then Live Update updates Norton 360 and things eventually fail again.

Here’s what happened:

Install version / result

22.20.5.39 / Normal
22.22.6.10 / Normal
22.22.7.14 / Fail
22.22.9.11 / Fail
22.22.11.12 / Fail

FWIW, Norton Utilities installs eventually and it’s menus work normally.

Autofix was run and it states "We did not find any issues with Norton 360" on completion.

not sure if same as my issues i have had not recalling the drop down issue but it could be a installtion issue

i would run the auto fix tool ( click help and on left support ) the removal tool has bugs i have discovered, usually the auto fix finds a installation issue ( reboot required)

seemed to help me worth a try

Those are the steps I followed. I did remove-only and then logged into my account to perform the re-install following a reboot.

During the re-install, the system detected Malware Bytes was installed. That program had been disabled as a start-up program for awhile. During this re-install, I let it remove MB so that is now gone. The Norton install proceeded normally and all drop-down menus worked -until- LiveUpdate did it’s thing. Once LU updated the program, all drop-downs ceased to function as previously described.

Thanks for the post back. I have to ask, when you did the removal it was using the Removal Tool provided by Norton? And did you perform ONLY a removal and a restart? Doing so will give you a clean reinstall. Are you by chance using any other antiviral or malware software and have it set to load with Windows at boot?

  • To only remove your Norton device security product, click Advanced Options and then click Remove Only. Pay close attention to step # 5 in the Norton article.

Follow on screen prompts to restart your machine. Afterwards log into your Norton account to reinstall your Norton product and run live updates to install all patches that are available. Make sure you reboot as each patch is installed whether prompted to do so or not. This will ensure the patches are installed separately and completely. Perform a final restart.

I have version 22.22.11.12 and fast startup is and has been disabled for a long time.  This issue is not new, I've been living with it for at least a couple of months hoping it was a bug that would be quickly addressed but I needed to do something the other day and here we are.

Hello. What is your version of Norton currently? The latest should be version 22.22.11.12. And do you currently have fast startup enabled or disabled? If enabled please disable that setting and reboot. Then recheck to see whether the issue persists.
