You didn't mention the product you are using.
Is it possible for your to do your scan from the CD?
This might be a way to get past whatever is not playing well with your system
Hope this helps

Norton AntiVirus 2008. Windows XP service pack 2. The scan from the disk doesn’t detect anything. Yet I have a program that either disables Norton, or reboots just before it is detected. The other alternative would be looking at all files to see what has been recently installed. I am hoping to avoid that just due to time constraints.
Does the system only reboot when you scan your system, or also when running other products? When did this start happening: immediately following installation of Norton AntiVirus 2008, after installing another products, or downloading some other software?
I installed Norton several months ago. This is something that has just recently started. I have not recently installed any new software. What really strikes me is that it happens in safe mode. I am going to dig a little deeper and see what processes are running. It also happened when I ran a virus scan directly from Symantec website. I installed a program from Symantec to perform that scan but that's about it.
I am experiencing the same exact problem for the past week. The last full system scan I was able to run was on 5/28/08. Since then, my full scans runs about 3/4 of the way through when it just reboots and continues to reboot. Fatal microsoft errors appear then.....
That is the easiest way to recreate the problem, by trying to run a "full scan". Quick scan runs no problem. However, phantomly my system is now rebooting periodically during the day with no rhyme or reason.
Do you notice the scan hitting a specific file or folder when this reboot occurs? If you scan this specific file or folder, does the reboot occur?
