E-mail scanner hogs system resources

I registered this complaint maybe 12 months ago and still no fix.

 

I normally have a low bandwidth DSL connection (64kbps) to a Dell standard WinXP SP3 platform using Outlook Express.  

 

With NIS (Version 17.7.2.10) e-mail scanning turned on,  then when receiving or sending mails of any significant length, the NIS e-mail scanner knocks out all other executing tasks (e.g. Word, Excel etc) until the mail is sent or received.

 

With a high bandwidth connection, the problem is hardly noticeable.

 

With e-mail scanning disabled, the problem vanishes completely.

 

Same problem on different platforms purchased at different times.

 

So the only possible conclusion is that NIS is stealing  the platform capacity until it completes its tasks.

 

The Symantec people tried to help when I called, but then they just went away and never camr back and still no fix. Not happy.

 

Help please.
