Due to failing RAID 0 array, I tried to make a backup so as to recover onto a new drive. At the time of this backup, I had one recovery point and one incremental from April. The PC had serious drive problems - I had tried running CHKDSK multiple times and it would lock in the data verification (stage 4) or free space verification (stage 5) phases. Eventually I managed a reboot to last known good configuration and Windows XP came back so I could run these backups.
The first backup locked up - I hadn't set the Ignore Bad Sectors flag. The next backup had this flag set, and seemed to run to completion. The v2i file was created with a time of 2:30 a.m. and the PC spontaneously rebooted due to corrupted file system at 3:30 a.m. As I had the room available, I ran another backup at a time where I could watch the completion (9 hours later). The backup got to 1 second left, stayed there for about 15 minutes, then the PC rebooted.
Both of these backups appear as properly sized v2i files in the file directory, but don't appear in the recovery point listing.
I bought a new HD, recovered from the April good backup, and tried to access the later recovery files to try and save the data from later than the last good recovery point. On either opening or mounting, both give the above error, specifically: Error ED800012: The internal structure of the recovery point file (Last File Frame) is invalid, damaged or unsupported. I have tried unplugging the USB drive with these recovery files and plugging it back in - no difference.
Is there anything further to try so as to get at the data in these recovery files? I don't need to restore the system from them, I'd just like to open them and hopefully get some files.
System: Windows XP SP3, latest updates. Ghost 15.
Thanks,
Ed
