Email Message From Norton Suspicious

I got an email from norton that my smartscreen says is suspicious. It comes from Norton. I checked the url and everything. I am not sure though I clicked on it because I needed to activate my acount with Norton. Will it always do that when I get messages from Norton or should I always have Nortons messages scanned. It could just be that microsoft hates Norton though and maybe you people have some ideas.

Glad you asked but wish you had done so before you clicked on it!

What did the message say? What did it ask you to do that you clicked on?

What is the history of your Norton installation? Had you just bought it online from the Norton Store or was it a new installation you got from somewhere else -- if so from where .... a retail store, on line from a merchant or on line from a private seller ?

It's important not to just click on things especially on incoming emails because the email address or even a URL may not in itself be known to be dangerous -- it may be what you trigger off that is dangerous since it turns out you invited malware to come onto your PC which always makes it more difficult for security programs to protect you since noone likes to be nagged all the time with a "Do you really wanta to do that?" popup!

I feel like I'm only getting half of the story here.

What was the text of the message?

Needing to activate your account sounds like a new install. Were you able to activate your account and register your software?

Can you return to the MyNortonAccount site and confirm that all is well?

I'd scan everything incoming.

Hate may not be the correct word to describe the relationship between microsoft and Symantec.
