Email scan Thunderbird

I use Thunderbird for my email is there a way to scan the messages as they come in?

Are you asking about scanning messages for viruses?

Norton AntiVirus will scan any email program's attachments for viruses as soon as they are downloaded from the server. Because Norton AntiVirus scans files when they are written to your Mac's hard drive it doesn't matter what email program you use; as soon as it is downloaded, we scan it.

Thanks,

I know I see the scan window when downloading a program from the net or opening one just unzipped. But I don't see it when email is downloaded or opened. Is that normal?

Norton AutoProtect works in the background. You won't see a scan window, because it is scanning many files all the time. The scan windows you are seeing are from a feature called "Auto Disk Scan" which scans disks when they are mounted on your Mac's desktop. This is separate from Norton AutoProtect which only alerts you when it finds a virus.
