Embarrassing from Norton

This program is obsessed with cramming in advertising so much, its UI has become amateur. I’m sure it’ll be fixed, but this is embarrassing.

Agree, Reminds me of a pushy vendor in a rug market, That’s what a “security provider” has resorted to.

All they are doing is guaranteeing long time norton subscribers go elsewhere. I’m not gonna put up with this in my face that I can’t disable. It reeks of corporate desperation.

As a subscriber since 1998, I will most certainly not be renewing when my subscription ends. Norton won’t really care though, as not enough people will take similar action for them to reconsider this ridiculous move. I don’t mind the odd pop-up message, but having it permanently on the main dashboard is unacceptable (considering we already pay a fee for the product).

I’m convinced the software refresh, resulting in v24, was done with advertising primarily in mind. These scareware messages can persistently warn me about so-called issues until the cows come home, but thankfully I’m knowledgeable enough not to fall for it. Sadly, however, these tactics will be successful with many people.

If you want to get rid off that message,
deinstall norton and remove the avast folder in your c drive.
Reboot and install norton again, make sure,

and, never do a smart scan on your own…

If you disconnect your internet … norton will forget about your risks => I might never understand how (and why) that works…

Thanks for the suggestion. I have actually done a clean install on a new OS build of Windows with all scans set to manual, and while the message does go away for a bit, it does appear eventually.

I will try disconnecting from the internet and see if that makes a difference.

lucky me, this is what I get so far:

This only works as long as you are not connected to the Internet.

Nice of them to keep that space for persistent advertising. That’s what annoys me more than anything else.

Once upon a time, the only time you’d see ads in software was when it was free.

seems the current owner is not as ethical as previous

If this new version 24 of 360 works the same way, after a week or two of no internet connection your product will stop working until you connect to the internet so your 360 can verify you have a current subscription.

Of course with the internet disconnected, and assuming you never connect any external devices to your system, you have no worry about getting any infections.

Don’t think I fancy being disconnected for that long

I also get the broken registry ads… and they are relentless - it wont let me disabled and I have to let it scan my PC which obviously slows down my work. And then the scan makes me go through a series of clicks to see what more they want me to pay for to get rid of broken registries (which in fact I really don’t as my friend logs in remotely and sees absolutely nothing - not even malaware). Anyways, then after I see the ad and I click opt out, then it takes me to another series of scans. I’m considering bailing on Norton all together as every few hours I need to set aside 5 mins during the course of the day to be able to just work. I don’t understand why it doesn’t even allow me to just click NO - I don’t want to go through all the scans and I certainly am NOT buying another product even though it says it’s giving me 70% off. Maybe I would consider buying this if I actually had an issue with the PC - but heck windows scan does the same thing but at least no circus in order to just get to work on my PC. Norton, please listen and allow people to disable these ad scans…

I’m with you - it’s infuriating! After doing a Smart Scan, you’re presented with more advertising, and after you click ‘X’ to close that window, another one pops up nagging you again!

I’m at the point now where I don’t even perform a Smart Scan. Imagine, users of security software reluctant to run scans to avoid that software’s built-in nagware!

New change to the adware - gotta make sure people are seeing it.

Give it time, this whole section will change to red.

BTW the solution given in the Manage marketing pop-up notifications from Norton support page does not work:

Open Norton protection.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

There is no Device Security displayed option in “My Norton” window

documentation refers to v22

We’re hoping Norton publishes and maintains an online, current, in-depth, indexed, searchable, illustrated/videos…Norton 360 User Guide

“Smart Scan” is just Norton’s adware.

Norton enable it by default so would advise to disable it asap and run other scans.
