With Norton solutions, we strive to bring industry-leading, valuable and relevant security to help protect your devices and personal information. Occasionally, we reassess our portfolio of security solutions and features to ensure that they meet these criteria.
As a result of this portfolio assessment, we have decided to discontinue Norton Protection for some of the older macOS versions.
Starting February 28, 2025, Mac devices running on the following operating systems will no longer be supported by Norton:
- macOS X 10.10 (Yosemite)
- macOS X 10.11 (El Capitan)
- macOS X 10.12 (Sierra)
This article provides more information on how this decision potentially impacts you, and helps you with answers to some of the frequently asked questions related to this End-of-Support announcement.
Why is Norton ending support for these operating systems?
Apple stopped releasing any product updates and security fixes for macOS X 10.12 (Sierra) and earlier versions. It becomes difficult for us to support devices running on unsupported operating systems.
As a result, no product updates or new versions of Norton Device Security will be released for macOS X 10.12 (Sierra) or earlier.
How do I know if I have macOS X 10.12 Sierra or earlier?
To find out the macOS X on your Mac, follow these steps:
- Click the Apple icon on the Menu bar and then click About This Mac.
- On the Overview tab, you can find the version of macOS that you have on your device.
Can I still use Norton Device Security on macOS X 10.12 or earlier?
No, our Norton products can be installed only on macOS X 10.13 & above. For the best product and service experience, we recommend upgrading your computer to the latest macOS version.
