Epson XP-800 printing problem

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can show me how to resolve this issue. I have been using this printer for a couple of years and never encountered this issue before, it just started now for no apparent reason.

I can still print any Office file (either .docx or xlsx) with no problem at all, but if I try to print any “.pdf” file, the File Manager opens the page where the file is located and prompts me to save it, with the exact same filename, but now with its suffix changed to “.prn”. The only option provided to saving it is “Cancel”.  But no printing!

I have been Googling for a solution for hours and still cannot find any way out. What may I be missing?

All help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi LinYu2  Adobe reader 11.0.23 is the last  version last updated last fall if I remember and if you check for updates you get a no longer supported  message.  As for your printer I use a cannon printer. I also do not use adobe reader as it has a large footprint if I remember the download is over 80mb I use Sumatra PDF viewer that has a download size of 3.7 mb  As the requirement to use adobe with your printer you may be able to use another PDF reader

LinYu2

I believe the culprit was the "Print to file" feature, because it was checked, for whatever reason unknown to me.

I saw this with a new installation of Windows 10 FCU Pro 63bit -- that Print to File was pre-checked  when I went to look at the Printer setup (an older HP OJ 8100) and I had to go into Setup I think it was to find the OJ8100 and make it the default (only) printer.

You know how Microsoft struggle to make it easier for us ...... devil

LinYu2 You are most welcome. PS-Those drivers should take care of the ink icons being greyed out as well.

Cheers

Thanks to both of you for caring to help.

To Imacri: I did as you indicated and it worked immediately. Then I tried printing the remaining work directly from Windows and it worked as well, as it always had done before. I believe the culprit was the "Print to file" feature, because it was checked, for whatever reason unknown to me.

To Soul Asylum: Thanks for mentioning the drivers' update. I intend to do that as soon as I get a chance. In fact, I am currently using Adobe Reader XI and I think I read somewhere during my searches that this version was no longer supported. If this turns out to be the case, what version should I download and install as a replacement? And would it be required to first uninstall my older version?

Thanks again for your valuable help. God bless you both.

Cheers!

P.S. - Edited to say I forgot to mention one remaining small issue: The cartridges icons that appear during each printing session do not show their ink levels, and instead, they remain grey.

Apologies lmacri_ Our posts seem to have crossed.

Cheers

Hello LinYu2 Download fresh drivers for your printer and reboot. When done make sure you have Adobe Reader installed. If on Windows 10 change printer settings to NOT allow Windows to manage your printers. Also set Adobe Reader as the default app to open pdf files.

Hi LinYu2:

Open your PDF file in your PDF viewer (e.g., Adobe Reader, PDF-XChange Viewer, etc.) and select File | Print.  Make sure your Epson XP-800 is selected as the printer name (my image below shows I have a HP Photosmart printer) and make sure that the Print to File checkbox in the printer setup dialog is disabled.
