I have the same error on only one of my two almost identical PC's. I had great diffficulty removing NIS from it and reinstalling made no difference. I followed the advice given by QAZMAN on page 17 of this thread and downloaded the trial version anti-malware from http://www.malwarebytes.org/index.php. It found 12 viruses that slipped past NIS for some reason. After deleting them and restarting my PC everything was good. that was four days ago and still no problems. hope this can help someone.
I’ve now got the same problem. It just appeared out of the blue after I re-started my computer. The one click support error 3039, 1 has appeared and advanced protection is turned off. It mentions as well this this happens after a re-install. I have not re-installed Norton, except around 3 weeks ago, however it was ok from then until just now. I am currently running the file and component checker, so I’ll post again what happens there. “Fix now” doesn’t do anything. As far as I’m aware, I haven’t installed anything to make this happen. How do I fix it?
I tried this before and it didn't work hence I had to look at another solution the macropool MDAC Repair Tool I previously posted about
It didn't work because I don't have a SP3 XP disc as upgraded automatically through windows updates from SP2
If Jsavga's solution doesn't work for you give the macropool MDAC Repair Tool a try. I have no connection to the company I'm just gald it repaired the issue for a small cost :)
stwood, I no longer use Norton, but instead have a 2 yr. subscription for Eset Nod32. I do keep up with this thread to see if a solution ever has come about though. I posted the link above because some reported that repairing the MDAC was a solution for them and this was a way to freely do it. I failed to mention that you have to have an original SP2 or SP3 disk which many do not, either having no XP disk with their purchase or having an earlier version whose Service Packs were updated through Windows Update.
From my experience, my issue was related to a virus that was undetectable by NIS 2009.I found that scanning my system using www.superantispyware.com removed all relevant threats and my system would run normally.
Previous versions of NIS would scan my machine prior to installing the software, however in the latest release this doesn't seem to be the case. Can somebody from Symantec explain why this is no longer needed?
I agree with the last posts. In my experience error 3039.1 is a consequence of malware - that is undetected by NIS 2009.
My case is similar to others mentioned in the thread: error appears a few minutes after turning on the computer, un/reinstallation of the software fixes nothing... and, with time, computer starts to be slow and "weird". In my particular case I downloaded and installed other malware detectors (including Malwarebytes) and often they refused to launch, hang or behave erratically - this really made me suspicious.
How did I fix it, in case this helps others? - after trying several on- and off-line antivirus and diagnostic programs I had my PC scanned online at onecare.live.com (it's free); that worked all the way thru - and detected a trojan... but was unable to delete it:
The virus was described as "Win32/Obfuscator", and (what's more important) the analysis pinpointed a suspicious file... that WAS really suspicious!! - a dll in the System32 folder with a veeeeery long name (something like gxvx[... a lot more random letters...].dll). By the way, hardly any information in Google about any of them.
As I said before Onecare confessed itself unable to "clean" the file, but I found it quite easy to do so by hand (I used File Assasin); I also deleted another file with a similar name in the same System32 folder.
Now everything is back to normal... except that I do not trust NIS as I did before.
I was hoping I could get some feedback from users affected by this issue. If your system is currently seeing a 3039, 1 error, could you please take a quick look and answer:
- Is your primary system hard disk partitioned into more than 1 logical drive? (e.g. a 200 gig drive partitioned into C: (50 gigs) and D: (150 gigs)
- Does anybody whose drive is not partitioned still see this problem?
I've been reading through this thread since I too was getting the 3039,1 error and the "Sonar" would fail after a few minutes after booting. On Saturday (05/02) I tried following the automatic resolution (one-click or something like that)...and printed out the instructions. I used the link provided in the instructions and downloaded the latest virus definitions (which was dated 05/02/2009). I opened N360 V3, clicked settings/anti-virus..."auto-protect" was on, but I had to change the "early load" to on. I then performed the comprehensive scan as indicated in the instrucitons. It did find 1 risk/threat. After it finished, I rebooted as directed. As a result, my laptop will no longet boot. I got a "disk read error, hit alt-ctrl-del to continue"...and I can not get past that.
So, I'm now back to square-1 having to reinstall the OS, and everything else. Great. I'm sure whatever "threat" there was will now be gone...but this as a resolution is ridiculous.
My laptop had XP Pro, SP3, and all up-to-date. Running N360 V3, which is also running just fine on my desktop. I have 1 download left of N360/V3 out of the 3. I'm never going to download again...next time I'll buy the CD.
I presently have the same problem with the Advanced Protection of Norton Internet Security 2009 not staying turned on and getting the 3039.1 error each time I boot up. I just completed a complete scan by Malware Bytes and it found no problems. My hard drive has 4 partitions on it: 150 gb, 50 gb, 50 gb, 50 gb. I am running Win 7 RC 32 bit on the second partition. I didn't have this problem with Win XP(on the first partition) nor with Win7 Beta on the second partition nor with Win7 RC 64 bit on the third partition - only with Win 7 RC 32 bit on the second partition. Thanks for any help.
To start off, I'm using v. 16.5.0.135 of Norton Internet Security 2009.
My Problem: My first problem was that SONAR Advanced Protection continously turned itself off. After that, I used the Norton Removal Tool and reinstalled the product. Now it comes up with the error stating that SONAR advanced protection failed to load; error 3909.
Anyone have any idea what I should do?
Also another note is that I repaired Windows XP due to a booting error, and it was after that that the SONAR Advanced Protection began to mess up.
Firstly, I'm running W7 RC1, primary disk is 500GB split 100GB/400GB, so I'm not in the "not partitioned" category.
Using Norton 360 Version: 3.0.0.135
I have 3 issues I cannot "fix" in this version. Windows tells me after each start-up that there is a driver that failed to load due to incompatibility, followed almost immediately by Norton 360 telling me that SONAR failed to load and telling me to download an update manually.
I also find I cannot "fix" the issue with my inbound or outbound emails from Outlook 2007 not being scanned.
davidmk, the version of Norton 360 that you have does not work with Windows 7 RC1. A beta version of Norton 360 is available that should remedy the problems that you’ve described, though. I don’t have the beta link available at the moment but I’m sure somebody will add it to this thread shortly.
Thanks for the info. A shame subscribers can't use their purchased 360 keys to activate the beta, 14 days isn't exactly a long time considering the Win7 RC1 has a 1 year lifespan!
I'll stick with the partial functionality of the released for now.
My wife's machine just hit this. XP Home, SP3. Been running ISS 2009 for months with no problems.
Today, well, she downloaded something that probably had a TROJAN in it. I noticed both PP10.EXE and LD08.EXE trying to run. Last one creates SYSDLL.EXE and that was running too when she hit the error with ISS 2009 doing a One Click Fix (that didn't fix it either).
On top of that, she couldn't get to the Internet with a browser. All browser she was using had Proxy turned on to 127.0.0.1 port 7171 I recall, not sure about the port number.
Reseting to no Proxy fixed the browsers and deleting the Trojans as well, but ISS continues to have the problem/error.
We did a Chat with Norton/Symantec and they took over the system.
Couldn't fix it, what a surprise, if I had seen this thread before we did the chat I wouldn't have bothered. I've been promised a callback in a few days...
I may try a registry cleaner and Malware too. An ISS complete scan found nothing for what that is worth.
