Error 8504,104 for norton security

I'm getting an error message 8504,104 for norton security after running 'auto fix'. It doesn't look like it's updated under the manage section in the norton account because the devices show a red 'x' instead of a green check mark. I've tried the removal tool and the the removal and reinstall, power eraser, etc... about 10 times and nothing works. I've always installed norton via cd rom because it did everything for me...the uninstall and new reinstall... but since they started with this product key or the renewal on line, it doesn't work AT ALL! Since it looks like they will never bring back the cd, how can i fix this issue with this error? Am i protected or not? It keeps crashing saying that norton has stopped working and i can't even run scans. I need help!! And please do not recommend the removal tool or reinstall etc... because it doesn't work. Are their any other suggestions?
