Error: 8504, 104

I have 360 since Sept 2012.

I have uninstalled it 11 times, re-installed it 12.

2 different Tech Support(?) (free version)  has twice repeated what I did, each 1 times.

I have to check every morning at boot as to whether or not 360 decided to load, or not. Usually, it's 'not' by the clock.

Looking through Processes, I see 360 is loaded - but doing squat.

I've been over and over it with support. Not the "Nate" so-called support, but human support, and they refuse to beleive that I know how tyo use Norton remover, don't care that I downloaded the downloader to download the installer to download and set up the files, nor believe that by downloading the full install files without using the downloader to download, that fresh install fails as well.

360 has become so unreliable, that I've lost all trust in Norton support.  There was a time over a year ago with Norton Internet that I allowed a 'tech' to access my computer - that did not fix the problem, but did force me to rebuild my login!

I have disabled everything at boot, except the bare bones. Still no 360.

When I try to run 360 from the progrtams folder, I get auto-fixing notice, there will be one that gives me an error the techs and auto-fix have no idea what it's for, but 360 generates it. Run 360 from the programs folder again and I get no issues found, run it again, it finds a new error code that the folks at 360 don't know what it means. OMG - even Nate is dumb-founded!

Anyone have any idea?  By the way, it was installed on a clean system in Sept. I would like to go back and get the version of 360 I had installed, and install that version and shut of the 360 fixes, updates, upgrades, and patches.

Hi

If having any issue with Norton 360 v 4.0. Please go through the given web link and follow the below steps and fix the issue. If still not working please contact support  toll free number (800-745-6061)

I am running N360 v.5 on my Vista HP laptop.

I have tried setting up different back-ups for different types of files, to run at different times. No matter what I try, the online back-ups NEVER complete & I am presented with the above Error message approximately once a week, as well as the icon in the Notification area having a permanent '!' exclamation mark.

Despite following all the recommended steps, this always results in a need to re-install N360, which is becoming somewhat tedious.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks for the quick reply.

There is one thing odd in the teps x step. The line of instructions Max's the Non-Plug and Play Drivers and the rest of the instructions does not seem to refer to the max'd window (Non-Plug and Play Drivers ).

Hi iNiC,

My bad, "Goto the screenshot page page"  should read go to the maximized page - sorry for the mistake.

Did you figure it out or are you still working on it?

Let is know.

Super Worm Eliminator said "Let is know."

It became more tha n just random unknown error codes by 360 - - - things got worse.

After grieving over this thing since late October 2012, I asked for a refund and I would drop down to Internet 2013.  They told me it was processed and to check my bank. After two weeks, I called them. The fellow said it was an "off-line installation" and that a check would be sent in 6 to 8 weeks and disconnected me. I called back, waited another 39 minutes and the girl told me a check would be mailed in 4 - 6 weeks because the installation was more than 180 days. I count 155 days.  Heck of a way to make money - by keeping it, and disabling 360 altogether!

Adding injury to insult, they disabled the wrong one!  I have several packages. My other systems no longer have security, but I can enable the right one. Go figure.

To sum it up, I dropped out of thew Symantec Partner Program, won't expect the refund, and am working my way through all the other packages and refunding those.

They gave me 2 different reasons and 2 different time frames to wait for the check for the wrong account.

I've promoted, installed trials on customer systems, and bought packages for friends as gifts. Try buying online a gift for someone. It's pure Hades! And all since 2006.

I'm saddened to see Symantec drop to the level they have.

Hello all,

At the time I witnessed this error on a laptop running XP Professional, ‘run a dll as an app’ (rundll32.exe) was BLOCKED under Firewall Program Rules from accessing network resources.  To be on the safe side, performed revert back to N360 5.0 leaving ‘run a dll as an app’ (rundll32.exe) set to “automatic” under Firewall Program Rules - - have not noticed the error since.  Please note that this error code is also being discussed here: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Got-the-8504-104-error/td-p/896723

Haha, thankfully I'm not alone!

Yes, I received the same error. Then more errors, such as 8506, 421. I've uninstalled/reinstalled numerous times (even two Norton technicans have tried, even by cleaning the registry prior). Norton will NOT load the main screen. It loads into the traybar. I click on it, and it disappears. :(

Was told last Thursday the lady would ring me the next day. Today is now the following Wednesday and nothing heard. Really appalling, especially being called at 4am that Thursday morning to troubleshoot.

StevieTNZ,

Make no mistake, you’re still alone.  Your mind is the prison that prevents others from reaching you.  You might ask, “How are you communicating with me then?”  Like Professor Xavier from the X-Men, I had to summon all of my telekinetic powers to permeate your mental barrier.  Putting all that aside, I formulated a personal theory, that, really, versions of N360 higher than 5.0 were just not crafted for computers running Win XP.  Anyhow, have you tried going back to 5.0?

Ah, yes.  You were the original poster of, “What does midday mean to you?”  You must like sleeping late.  By 4am, the day is half done!  Believe it or not, sometimes I’m up so late that I can troubleshoot on their schedule.  Yeah, to prevent confusion, I’ll re-emphasise Eastern US.  On some level, at least they called you back.  Very unlike the unprofessional technical support of Bitdefender.  Despite the time discrepancy, still shows that Norton/Symantec is committed to helping you.

The day is not half done at 4am. A day is 24 hours. 12 hours from 12am is 12pm. And I don't get anything else you've said in your post. What are you actually going on about?

And how do you infer I sleep late? Is it by me saying to call around 12pm? It's not because I've just woken up (or been up for only a few hours). I'm up at 6-6.30am Mon-Sat. I do have things to do in the morning, and 12pm suits me.

Sheesh, when did comedy die on this forum?  As I have explained in the past, about half of what I say is to be taken with a grain of salt - - where to delineate that half has perplexed people for centuries.

Anyhoo, have you tried my idea of re-installing N360 5.0?  Since I have done that, I have not noticed the stubborn 8504, 104 error.

Regards,

H.B.

I have not seen that post where you say half of what you write is comedy.

Nonetheless, if any of your previous post was comedy, none of it was funny - at least to me. It made no sense and doesn't fit into the context of this thread.

Also, things are funny when they make sense. For example, to say 'how can I be the next Pope when they haven't flown me to Rome?' doesn't make sense because you had to be in Rome itself to be the elected the next Pope. A lame attempt at being funny, without it making any sense whatsoever.

Hi,

Fifth post down.

Update:-

Now, when the 8504 etc. was presented, Norton indicates (at least on the XP Prof system) to un-install Malwarebytes' as it is interfering.  Yikes.  When did Norton and MBAM stop playing nice in the sandbox?  I guess Malwarebytes' stole Norton's chocolate chip cookie during snack and now Norton no longer wants to play with MBAM.  Guys, can't we all just get along?  Now make nice.  MBAM apologise to Norton.  (MBAM apologises)  Now Norton, accept MBAM's apology.... no?.... accept the apology gosh darn it!  :smileylol: Subsequently, I have reverted to MBAM version 1.50 - - moving forward, we shall see if the situation improves.  If not, regrettably, I might have to just use Norton.  Don't get me wrong, Norton is great, but I always like MBAM as a back-up guard.  Kind of like when an outfielder will backup an infielder on a play.  Funny, on a sys running Win 7, MBAM 1.70, Norton does not present an interference message.  Could it be that the sheer environment of Win 7 is just more condusive to ameliorating any issues betwixt the two?  Hmmm....  The plot thickens....  Will Norton ever forgive MBAM?  This and more in our next jam-packed episode!  Stay tuned!  :smileyvery-happy:
