Running XPsp3 with ie 8.0.6001.18702. Recently updated to N360 v20.1.1.2 and now getting N360 popup messages saying I have error: 8506, 421. Tried following support options but it keeps coming back. Another user has same problem with Norton Internet Security http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Error-8506-421/td-p/805366 and has tried re-installing without success. I have not tried re-installing as the option doesn't indicate whats going to happen to my large Vault of passwords. The product check on support says nothing wrong with installation yet 5 seconds after closing it the message will appear telling me there is an error. I am concerned that after this message is appearing intermittently my PC is left UNPROTECTED as sometimes N360 has STOPPED RUNNING.
And just to update I'm now getting "Error: 8504, 104" as well. After reading the extensive posts on how to fix that I think I would rather just have the older N360 back until Symantec produces a working pre-tested update.

To be on the safe side, if you can log into your ID Safe Vault, Export your ID Safe Data and save it to an area you have access to in case you do lose your logins if you decide to do the reinstall. Your product activation key and ID Safe Data are supposed to be retained after you remove Norton and then reinstall it. I always suggest Exporting the data as a precaution.
If memory serves me correctly, Error 8504,104 suggests Product encountering Conflict or file corruption. If that is the case, then a reinstall may be helpful.
Thanks for that. I found the export utility and have backed up my vault. Rather than re-install, I'm waiting on Symantec to release an update with a working start up manager as THE START UP MANAGER DOESN't WORK in XP ! (known fault) It's about time it was fixed!
