Error 8920 208 Web Protection Updates

I have received Error 8920 208 and others each time I try to follow the prompts that NIS (2011) keep throwing up. It started on 24 Nov 2011 and now keeps switching off the antivirus right before my eyes - I flick the yes and it goes back to "no". I have 66 days subscription left and have tried running Live Update but then it shoots off to a webpage to gather up an update, which it then says "Current virus definitions are corrupted" and will take an hour to download, then freezes my computer, and its just a continual circle of being sent back to the 2012 updates etc and freezing etc. Im currently now waiting for the "Intelligent updater" definitions to download because somewhere on Norton community it recommended it for people having trouble with one of the many error messages Im getting. Each time Ive tried to fix the darn thing it comes up with a different module error code. Ive had no trouble at all since I installed it in March 2011, but it now keeps coming up saying its unprotected. I have Windows 7 on HP touchsmart if that helps. The History shows the exact date this all started when I became bombarded with the prompts 24/11/11 exact message is NIS Auto-protect cannot load because your virus protection updates are not valid (I have 60 odd days left of 2011 subs). Please use LiveUpdate to download and install new virus protection updates." Well I have tried for several nights now and turned things on and off, in between NIS turning itself on and off. I am not not very savvy around the language of things techie apart from my email and wordprocessing software, so I hope someone will read this with a knowing nodd and give me some really basic instructions on how to put NIS back on track to her good old operating status.

Hi feliscatus

Welcome to theNorton Community Forum.  :)

it is a shame you are having these issues. :(

You could try and uninstall NIS 2011 and reinstall with a fresh start.

You would have to make sure you export and backup your Identity

Safe if you use that, some users say to even back it up twice to

different folders and different locations on the computer.

Then you would have to make sure you have your NIS 2011 activation

key safe to re enter and activate the fresh insatll of NIS 2011.

First you should run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall NIS 2011-

Norton Removal Tool

Sometimes it pays to run the NRT twice and reboot the computer

between each time.

Then you will have to download and install NIS 2011-

www.norton.com/nis11

Then you will have to enter your activation key when installing NIS 2011.

Then run LiveUpdates manually until there are no updates this may

require restarting the computer a few times.

Hope that info helps if you decide to uninstall and reinstall NIS 2011

to resolve the issues you have been having.

Don't forget it is free to upgrade from NIS 2011 to NIS 2012.

Cheers.  :smileyhappy:

Just to add.  Please remove the program using the add/remove programs FIRST before using the removal tool.
