Error in Forum renderation of paranthesis () in URLs

Whenever I tried to link to paranthesis (Wikipedia especially use this), it keep comming up invalid HTML code and remove the URL...

That's what was happening to me in trying to post the second link on Redcoats.

The URL is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redcoats_(Butlins) and it will not accept the final ) as part of the URL and include it with the underline and even if you create an underlined ) with CTRL + U it doesn't work as part of the URL ......

Hello

The Forum seems to have a problem with invalid HTML code often. I get it even when I am copying a post from the forum and try to put it into my reply. If it's already in the Forum thread, you would think that it would have the correct HTML code then.

As you say an Invalid HTML code message is very common for some reason that has never been properly explained -- it's crazy when you can copy a link from one message to another and get a flag on it.

However in my experience a second POST or Preview click will result in it posting with the link working.

This is the first time I have had that error message and an absolute refusal to post the message after saying the invalid code had been removed.

And I've not seen before the invalid message on a straight URL posted in the text of a message.

I tried 19 ways to Sunday to work around it but with no success ......

bump no response from Symantec yet?

Hi Tywin7, I have been trying to duplicate your issue in various browsers. We are looking into the problem and will keep you posted!

Shannon,

It hit me again yesterday when I tried to post a copy/paste of a subscription message from the Forums from OE into the reply editor and it resolutely refused to do so.

My first attempted workaround was was to pste the copy into WordPad, which preserves links, and then CTRL + A and Copy/Paste into the reply editor and it was refused.

Then on the original copy/paste in the reply editor I went thorough each of the links, opened with create link  and deleted the URL behind the link and Updated but after doing this on all three links it still rejected invalid HTML.

The existence of some "shadow" outline boxes makes me think that there may be a residual block format still left. You can see this if you copy/paste the text of an email OE subscription message into WordPad.

In the end I copied the email into NotePad and then back into the reply editor and faked the links in blue but not active and the message was accepted.

Heck of a task just to show the user here that I had a link View this Reply that he did not .....

Here's the thread in question with the message:  Or rather it would be if I did not get this error message

Please correct the highlighted errors and try again.

Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied.

What would it not post despite an effort at HTML editing by me (and if it has removed the invalid HTML why won't it post, even if the link does not work ..... ? )

Yup. Its still not recognizing links containing parenthesises. Any Symantec employee care to join in?

Hello Tywin

Please take a look at Reese's post in this thread. I tried his link with IE 8 and it worked for me.

Try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Test_(assessment) as you can see with http://community.norton.com/t5/Forum-Feedback/The-Offical-Test-Post-Sandbox-Thread-Please-use-this-thread-for/m-p/306004 it did not work.

Hello Tywin

Your link worked for me also using IE 8, but I'm not using Win 7.

Hi flop point, can you please post a sample post using the (assessment) wikipedia example? Thanks!

I think the problem is still there. Is it browser/os specific?
