Error on installing Norton 360 4.0 on Windows XP sp3: No Terminal Services

I just wiped the HD of my Dell Inspiron 1300 and reinstalled Windows XP SP 3. I am trying to reinstall Norton 360, but get the error message: This process is unable to continue due to a system service that may not be installed or cannot be started. Please repair your installation of Windows before continuing.

A link to the Norton support site then takes me to a link (in my Firefox browser) to

Step 1: Start the Terminal Services.

Clicking on that I get a window about a Auto Fix Tool, which never starts.

I checked the list of services under Administrative Tools/Services, and Terminal Services is not there. Do I need to install it? If so, how?

Thank you for your help!

Hello Bomber, and thanks for the reply!

When I type in the command line you give, I get a prompt asking me which program I want to use to open this with. Am I typing it wrong? Are there spaces around the -k? is the "-" a dash, a minus, or something else?

Thanks,

Ohass

There is no space between - & k, and it is a minus character. Try to run scan/repair for Windows files. Click Start > Run, type SFC /SCANNOW and click OK to scan/repair all system files. Restart the computer and check whether the problem persists.

If the problem persists, you may have to perform a repair installation of Windows as this problem happens when the system files are damaged. You can find more instructions to perform a repair installation in this LINK.
