Hi

Try doing  a Live update followed by a full system scan.Your issue should be fixed.

John Irudayaraj

Did you allready try a full scan just as John suggested?

I ended up doing a complete re-set of my computer (back to out of the box state)

I went to support in india and the technician assured me that after a couple of days the AV would finally accept that it had the latest virus definitions and said not to worry that it would be OK in a day or so.

He then (for some reason) changed my system date back to 5/12/08 and from then on (even when i went into the control panel) I was  unable to reset it to 5/19/08. Then when I went back to Symantec tech. deparment in India the technician I got was unable to take remote control of my computer and said that it was a problem at his end and to ring back tomorrow.

Well.. after all the trouble I've had recently I decided to take matters into my own hands and so I then did a complete re-set of my computer to out of the box state. It  took me a couple of hours to re-install all the updates and other software I had backed up on CD's but at least now my computer is like new, the date is correct, and everything is OK.

Thanks to those who tried to help me, I'll see you round the traps!

I had this same problem and the only way I solved it was by uninstalling and then reinstalling Norton.  I even let it go a couple of weeks thinking it would fix itself but I still got that message about everything being out of date.  Frustrating but the only solution is to uninstall and then reinstall Norton no matter what they say about it fixing itself.  It doesn’t.

Thanks for the feedback -- you've got a better system now than before!

You don't say what version of Windows you are using but if it's VISTA then that protects the system against modifications much more strongly than used to be the case so that may be why the system date could not be reset in Windows.

With the type of problem you described sometimes you have to run Live Update several times in succession to get it fully uptodate and sometimes directly invoking LUALL.EXE, which is not located in the NIS folder, can fix things.

Well... all I can say is that now (at last) everything is running correctly.

Hip hip hooray!!!!!!! :smileyhappy:

Keep it that way!
