Excessive broadband consumption

Computer uses windows 7 system.  Since June broadband consumption has been exceeding the monthly 10gb allowance in a matter of a few days.  No heavy usage of computer.  Norton 360 can detect nothing and recent PC health check detected nothing. Any advice or guidance gratefully accepted bearing in mind its a novice your dealing with.

Further to my query re: something consuming my broadband, whatever it is its also blocking access to Norton Power Eraser and preventing me downloading Norton updates, thought this might help with diagnosis?

Possibly.  What error messages are you getting when trying to download NPE?  What happens when you run liveupdate manually?

How is the machine running otherwise?  Can you reboot into safe mode and run a Norton scan to see if anything is found when the drivers are inactive?

Computer is used sparingly, 1 or 2 hours a day if that.  Time on internet same as machine use. Community watch is disabled. Automatic Windows update is off. No error message appears. Computer seems to be running as normal.  Started in safe mode, done all checks, Norton says all OK.  Using broadband monitor without connecting to any internet source other than broadband is switched on there is still a constant in and out activity which is consuming broadband.
