Exclude specific folder that occurs in multple places

I am using the latest version of Norton Antivirus on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I have two different folders that I want to exclude wherever and whenever they occur on my hard drive, as well as all of their subfolders.

They are

.hg - created by Mercurial version control software whenever I create a new repository

.idea - created by the various IDEs put out by JetBrains.

Is there a way to do this with the existing exclusion capabilities?

Thanks!

Wildcards can be used to exclude file extensions, but cannot be used in a path.
