I am new to the forum as I've just purchased Norton 360 about a week ago. I am hoping someon can shed some light on a few issues I'm having. After purchasing and installing, I immediately ran a scan and all appeared good except it detected a boot.cidox virus. There were a few extra steps Norton provided to dislodge the virus after the initial scan failed, but it still keeps popping up. Any ideas on how to get rid of this?
My second issue is I've noticed that ever since I installed Norton 360, anytime I try to install a program, I get a toolbar at the bottom that states "xxxxxx.exe has a virus and was deleted", blocking me from installing any programs on my computer. This is getting to be frustrating and I can't figure out why it is detecting every .exe file as a "virus". I'm sure that can't be true. Has anyone else experienced this? Are the two issues related?
Try a Norton full scan in safe mode with networking (see help and support from the start menu). Disconnect the internet before booting into safe mode as Norton appears to be disabled in safe mode only allowing a full scan. Then restart the computer, can you repost with the result?
Conflict in security software can be the cause of various issues even if the security software has been uninstalled the debris left on the system may not have caused problems until a Norton update has been installed.
Have you or have you ever had any other security software including any trial security software on the computer including Norton? If so what is it?
Can you check in windows add/remove programmes, programme data and programme files for any security software that may have been bundled in a download?
What trial security software came with the computer?
It just so happend that I had just uninstalled ESET NOD32 (hated it) prior to installing the Norton. Apparently, it expired and didn't give me any notifications so I think that is how my computer got infected to begin with. When I installed the Norton, it did find and clear a few things. I don't recall having any other anti-virus when I first bought the laptop (it has been a few years already). I just remember purchasing the ESET with the laptop and installing it later on.

Use the process below to remove your previous security programme. You’ll need to download and save the removal tool from the security software’s main website or use the singularlabs website on the link below and choose from the list.
Uninstall using windows add/remove programme. Check that the security software is not there.
Restart the computer.
Run the removal tool.
Restart the computer.
This process should be performed for each security software to be uninstalled, meaning one at a time.
If you have previously uninstalled then the removal tool needs to be run and the computer restarted.
Has Avast been on the computer?

PUP’s are potentially unwanted programmes there are various free on demand scanners that can delete some of them. As they are not malicious software Norton does not block them and some people actually want the programme
The PUP can be downloaded in a bundle, some people can say that the box wasn’t unchecked but in my experance there is no option to reject the PUP.
The link below needs the basic version downloaded not the trial or the pro the same when installing to avoid any real time protection as it can conflict with Norton security software.
How would I know if an anti-virus was bundled in another software? You mentioned to check the installed programs, so would it state something like "security" or "anti-virus"? Not sure if it would be as obvious as that. But, it appears to me that I have all but Norton removed. I even ran the ESET uninstall tool to remove it completely.
I'm not sure what Avast is to be able to answer your question whether it has been on my PC before.
As for the booting into Safe Mode and running the scan, I did as instructed and after almost 2 hours, the scan finished with the following results:
43 tracking cookies
Packed.generic.433
trojan.zbot
trojan.malscript (x4)
Norton stated that all were fully resolved. Nothing came up for the Boot.cidox (though I'm suspecting that is malware and may be why??).
I booted back into normal mode and tried to download a file and received the same error that a virus was detected and the file was deleted. I still received the boot.cidox pop-up..so, I'm back to square one. I also received another Norton error message I have not seen before. I attached all three screenshots. Any other suggestions for me to try?
Boot.Cidox, Norton should not be able to remove, that is why it said failed, if I remember it could also involve the VBR.
P.G. (Packed Generic) 433 could be for Zbot (zeus??), ransom / FakeAV or Zeroacces, (could be why you are getting the download error and Norton error.
