Exploring a Ghost Image, Explorer Crashes - Please Help

Hi --

1.) The IT guy before me created a Ghost of a Hard Drive ( somefilename.GHO ) which is about 58.3 Gigabytes in 2007.

2.) The machine on which somefilename.GHO has Symantec Ghost Explorer version 11.0.1.1533 installed

3.) I attempted to explore somefilename.GHO using Ghost Explorer, and only some files appear (a handful); in the bottom panel is an error message which says: "No Update - Load Incomplete".  If I leave Ghost Explorer open, after a few minutes, it literally crashes (!!!).  We have a pretty huge hard drive partition packed into that Ghost Image which appears to bring Explorer down...

4.) I Google'd the Symanetic Ghost and the paid ads are promoting Norton Ghost version 15; has Symantec Ghost rolled into the Norton Ghost product line?

Questions:

  • At this juncture, what steps can we take?  Is this a known issue?
  • If we purchase Norton Ghost v15, can we expected that it will be able to explore the file without problem?
  • Is there are way to verify / repair the integrity of somefilename.GHO if it's damaged?
  • What are our options?

We'd greatly appreciate some assistance / input on this.

Thanks,

Aleks

Aleks,

That is a DOS Ghost file. It is not compatible with Ghost 15.

Can you boot from a Ghost 11 disc and verify the file?
