So after a bad upgrade to Windows 10, I made a clean install of the OS from scratch (no "reset", etc.). After installing and updating to the latest version of NS, I noticed that I was having some fairly bad issues with several (though one in particular) of my external drives slowing down and even the explorer.exe window crashing. I then looked at the task manager performance tab and noted a fairly consistent, 5 or so MB/s usage on that particular disk. I then looked at processes and traced it to one of Norton's processes by noting it as the only activity as well as corresponding to the exact same usage value. At first I thought maybe fingerprinting was being done, but it was left to do so for many many hours. It apparently no longer likes the files I have on that drive. Keep in mind that none of the files have changed (at least for many months now, as I haven't purchased more in a while and it has been disconnected completely) and are simply GOG.com and humblebundle.com game installers, all purchased directly from both of those sources. NS has never bogged down drives like this before to the point of them being almost unusable and it started flagging a couple files. I know nothing has been altered, because the drives have been disconnected for a while. NS was also installed on this system from the beginning. There were zero other security apps running or installed to begin with and Windows Defender was confirmed to be disabled--also disabled through group policy.
I had to completely uninstall Norton to make the drive remotely usable again. I'm currently running Windows Defender, unfortunately, in combination with Malwarebytes as an extra precaution to run on demand.
Windows 10 Pro 1607 (build 14393.969)
Norton version was 22.9.1 and fully updated
Let me know any other info I can provide, as I'm hoping this is just a temporary issue that can be fixed with a future update or updated definitions.
