Installed Norton 360 Standard yesterday and I bought it becasue it includes auto VPN for risky connections. Currently testing it on my very secure home network which has WiFi speed of 126 mps down and 44 up according to Speedtest. When I turn on Norton VPN and it connects to my nearest VPN in my country, not too far away, the speed plummets to just 6 mps down and 12 up.
This is a shocking 95% performance hit on the download speed, totally unacceptable.
I tried a few times with similar results. Will check over the next few days. Is the speed intended to be so slow for the Standard product?
Update: This may be restricted to the Switzerland server. The UK one is fast. Is the Switzerland server always slow ?
Switzerland has picked up a bit this evening, 7.51 mbps down and 25.50 up, with 47ms ping. The others are still as high as yesterday, around 125 down and 42 up, so Switzerland evidently suffering from severe capacity constraints.
If you can test a couple of other virtual locations with the Norton VPN to see if it is just a server location issue. There have been users reporting similar speed drops using the Norton VPN. Some we could never diagnose. It would seem to be something with the specific combination of hardware and installed software that we could not nail down.
Switzerland is my current workplace and I need to use the Swiss VPN for several reasons, mainly location services as well as privacy.
Norton should increase the capacity of the Swiss server as well as others where they are busy. It's a huge company and they can afford it.
I get amazing Swiss VPN speeds on ProtonVPN, built by the guys at CERN, and indeed speeds worldwide are great with them. Norton should partner with them, or at least improve their current VPN offer.
