Failed backup triggers large incremental

An incremental recovery point run with Ghost 14 seemed to complete but a post backup command generated an error that was not handled properly.  As a result, the post backup error was viewed by Ghost as a failed backup and the incremental file was deleted.  At least I assume it was deleted, because my understanding is that the post backup command would not have been executed if the Ghost backup had failed.  In any event, after correcting the post backup program to handle any errors, I re-ran the incremental, and Ghost tried to generate a very large incremental backup of about the same size as the original full recovery point in the set.  Does anyone know why this might happen?

I should mention that the failed post backup command was a remote shell command to a NAS, and any errors would not affect the integrity of the Ghost backup.  Also, there no defrag run had been performed after the original recovery point had been generated.
