I think I've found a solution in AdwCleaner. After running this program I only needed to manually uninstall 2 programs that were disclosed by this cleaner. Until then Norton did not detect the virus. The virus was quite active until AdwCleaner ran. All shortcuts were redirected to a Cassiopesa site and all browsers were directed to a Cassiopesa site. Why do I pay for Norton? When accessing Google the following message appeared on my screen:
"IF YOU ARE AN INTERNET USER IN NEW YORK

It appears that your computer has pop-ups ENABLED

Upon calling the phone number I was led on a quite informative goose chase thinking I was talking with a Time-Warner employee. When I asked if there was an extra fee for the services described I was told that yes :the fee was $399.99 / ?. The talker said the company was TECHIE-FIX. He also stated that I had no anti-virus protection from Norton.
That is th end of the day's adventure.
