I am using the latest version of Norton 360. I am trying to restore a file that norton 360 automatically quarantined. I get the error "Failure-1000". I searched google to no avail (even though at least one user has faced this problem sometime before). Is there something that can be done to restore this file?
BUMP.
Also, in case I can't really restore this file, is there any way to get some (MD5, SHA1) checksum of the file, so that if I can get it elsewhere, to verify that it's the one I "lost"?
Thanks.
Hi Digital:
Apparently no one has run into this issue before. Normally when something is in quarantine, you can click History>quarantine, and then click on the item to highlight it. When highlighted, you should be able to click on more details, and a screen should show up where normally you would find the choices to restore, to submit to Symantec. I do not know where this is going wrong for you. How many of those steps have you done before the error occurred?
Thanks for the answer delphinium!
Well, I do exactly as you describe: Security History --> Resolved Risks --> Item in Question (More Options) --> More Details --> Options --> Restore & Exclude.
This is not about Norton 360 in itself, rather the Antivirus part of it (present in Norton Antivirus and Internet security as well). I have done this procedure before and it has worked on another PC, but in this one I get the error described. It may be a problem related to this particular PC, because it's not operating that error-free either, but I would think that with norton there would be a reliable option to get files back. The other user that I was refering to is:

If I'm not allowed to link outside of these fora, please delete the link. I think the above question was originally posted on yahoo answers, but has since been mirrored to a few other places.
In any case, I just want to know if Norton has an answer to this particular problem, if not, then I'll just forget about it and move on.
Hi Digital:
It does seem to be a system issue. I haven't seen this particular problem on the forum before, so it isn't common. Since this is a user to user forum, and we don't appear to be very helpful on this one, a quick answer isn't likely. It may well be a software conflict that would require fixing the other errors on the machine and then uninstalling and doing a clean reinstall of N360. It's apt to be a nuisance either way, but it could be important if something you need ends up in quarantine.
OK, thanks for the input then.
I actually got the file I needed from another source, so that's a happy ending.
As for the problem, it persists even with NIS 2011 (I installed it and did some tests with some "risky" files - cannot recover those either). I'm pretty sure that if I did a clean windows installation, it would be gone.
