The Android mobile app Safe-In-Cloud password manager is falsely being detected as Malware. Please see attached PDF for screen shots.
You are welcome.
Thanks, Peter!
Thanks for everyones help.
@safeincloud and @Joseph Ezell
Norton has informed me that this false positive should be fixed. You may not see this immediately, but it should be very soon as it gets sent out to all LiveUpdate servers.
I just checked, and it is no longer blocked for me here in Canada.
I am not a Norton Employee. Just a user trying to help other users.
This sounds like a false positive detection coming from an updated malware definition update.
You could try the white list route. Normally for PC's there is a false positive site also. But for Android apps, it does not work because it asks for a link to the executable. Obviously, with the Google Play Store you cannot get a direct link to the apk file. I have been asking for some way to accommodate the mobile apps for some time. I'm not sure if there is a similar problem with the White List web site.
I have contacted my Norton contacts to ask that they check the detection of your app. I'll post back when I hear anything.
Peter, I am an author of SafeInCloud Password Manager app (www.safe-in-cloud.com). I normally use this link to whitelist a Windows app version:
https://submit.symantec.com/whitelist/isv/
Is there a way to whitelist an Android app version?
Peter,
One more update. I was using the pro beta version. I removed and reinstalled the non-beta version and I’m getting the same reaction from NMS.
FYI, I’m on version 16.1.7 (pro) and I made the developer aware of the issue.
Again, thanks for your help.
OK. I'll pass this on to Norton to check for the false positive.
I started using the free version about eight months ago. I switched to the paid version about six months ago.
I edited my last post. Maybe you saw the original text.
I wanted to ask how long you have been using that app? Is it the free version or the paid version?
I just tried to download the app and I got a warning that it contains malware.
Peter, Thanks for your help. Joe
How long have you been using this app?
Okay. That gave me access to clear the data. I restarted the phone. When I opened the Norton Mobile Security it automatically ran live update and a scan. Afterwards, it gave me the same alert. Any other ideas?
To access the clear Data button, you need to turn off the Device Administrator setting for NMS. Tap on the 3 bars at the top left of the NMS screen and tap on App Settings. Scroll down to Anti Theft section and turn off Device Administrator. You should now be able to clear the app Data. Just be sure to turn this setting back on after you are finished.
That doesn’t work. I can clear cache, but I can’t clear data. The data button is grayed out.
In addition, while there is an alert, I’m unable to manually run a scan.
Try going to Android Settings - Apps, and look for NMS. Clear the app cache and app data, then restart the device. Then run LiveUpdate and try the scan again.
