Detailed description:
I used to have a Google Pixel 6 Pro. When I used the PW Manager app on it, it would allow me to use the fingerprint reader. But I recently got a Pixel 9XL Pro and haven’t found a ways to enable the app to use the fingerprint reader. The FP reader DOES WORK because I use it to unlock my phone.
Product & version number:
OS details: Android 14
What is the error message you are seeing? N/A
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them: N/A
None of that applies. I’m asking about the Android app. Norton Password Manager. Upon trying to open it, I used to be able to press my thumb in the FP reader.
Did you check in the Norton Password Manager, NPM, settings to see if fingerprint is still setup? If it is still set up, uncheck the option and then close the NPM app. Open the app again and open the vault and then open settings again and set up the fingerprint option and test.
What do you mean you moved it to a “separate thread”? I’m the person that asked the original question.
It appears that because you broke the thread apart, you’re not seeing the part where I said I used to have a Pixel 6 Pro. NWM on that phone DID allow me to use my fingerprint. I now have a Pixel 9XL Pro and NWM will not allow me to use my fingerprint.
My phone’s FP reader DOES WORK – I use it to unlock the lock screen.
I’ve looked everywhere I can think of in the NWM settings. But I’m not finding it.
I see now that you started that thread, but you had posted into this thread. Password Manager That is why I had your post moved when I had not seen your original thread. I’ll have the two threads merged so all the information is in one place.
What Android version was on the Pixel 6? It might be an issue with the latest Android 14.
I take it that this is a fresh install on the Pixel 9, as you say you recently got the new device. Have your checked in the Android settings to see if there is a section for the fingerprint access that allows you to choose what apps can use the feature?
Pixel 6 was also on Android 14. Since I’ve never had to enable an app to sue the FP reader before, I never looked for such a setting. But now that you’ve asked, I’m looking for a setting like that and don’t see one.
I’m not sure what to make of the comment that I posted in the other thread you linked. My first post asking about this is the ONLY thing I’ve posted (besides my direct replies to your messages) within the last year. But since the thread is being merged back together, I’ll drop that issue
You can consider this case resolved. After posting my last reply, I tried one more thing. Instead of LOOKING for a setting (I thought it would be under Permissions and that I’d have to tell it which apps are allowed to use the FP sensor), instead, I typed in fingerprint with the search field I’m under settings.
That took me to the screen where you can enable or disable the FP Reader.
That screen has an option “Verify it’s you in apps”.
Tap on that and after entering your pin, it shows another screen. At the bottom of the screen is a toggle to Verify it’s you in apps. I turned this on and NPM is now using my fingerprints!
