Firefox 25 Problem

I had high hopes that this would be solved with FF26, but no.

... Still happening.

This is interesting, yesterday I checked FF for updates (from within FF), said there none. Checked today, it downloaded an

update, i restarted FF and it comes back with 25.0.1 , Guess i'm sneaking up 26 lol

That was quick, I'm at 26 now... wheeeeeeeeeeeeee

As this has only happened once on one system since upgrading to FF 26 and not since both systems were restarted I will cautiously and optimistically call this solved.

I hope it stays that way, but if anyone else still experiences this post back and let us know.

Still experiencing the issue here. Still intermittant, haven't seen any improvement,

sigh

Sigh indeed!

Yes, it has happened again to me as well.

NOT solved!

Hi Krusty13,

It's more or less the same issues as with IE 10.

Keep in mind that it might be some programs or services in your pc like, SSDP Discovery, or UPnP Device Host & WMP Networking Service that use UDP or HTTP for streaming or other similar services that prevent FF or IE from closing properly sometimes.

In my case it happened 1 or 2 times, (1 or 2 times is too much for me, LOL), with IE 11 too but after opening and closing the browser at least 100 times so good news.

I've managed to competely eliminate this issue by disabling the above 3 services, (you will have to disable ALL 3 at the same time & Reboot because they are dependent and not needed, if you do not use media streaming).

Do the same in Windows cpl for Homegroup Media Streaming options, (set to OFF) and if possible block the Windows Firewall inbound and outbound rules for WMP TCP & UDP protocols.

After this, click on the link "Allow a program through Windows Firewall" and uncheck WMP.

I uninstalled NIS to perform these changes and installed again but maybe it could be done via NIS Smart Firewall for WMP 12.

For me the problem with IE 10 or 11 processes sometimes not closing, no longer exists.

Maybe you could see if that resolves the FF problem too.

Let me know the results.

EDIT:  I forgot to mention that I also disabled the WMP add-on in IE.

Very best regards,

Hi Apostolos,

I'm checking msconfig now and it appears all three of those services are already stopped.  I have my home network configured as a Public network as I don not share files or stream my devices.  N360 has selected PROTECTED Trust Level.

FF not closing  has SO FAR only happened on one of my systems since the upgrade to FF26, and again, SO FAR only twice, which is no where near what I experienced with FF25.

I'm not sure in this case that the firewall would be involved, but I have been wrong before.  :smileywink:

For me, it is a mild annoyance now and not the utter frustration that I was seeing with FF25.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Krusty13,

Those are pesky services, type 'Services" in the Search box and check the status.

The default for the first 2 is manual BUT started, how could this be?? and for the third is Automatic/Delayed start.

Disable both 3 and reboot.

Check also Windows Firewall or NIS Smart Firewall and for WMP block HTTP & UDP.

It's a combination of things that need to be done.

You will have later to also open WMP and in the Options tab  manually uncheck the use of streaming protocols and use of proxy servers if not needed.

I'm using a private home network but sharing is disabled.

Regards,

At least I'm not alone  -  https://input.mozilla.org/en-GB/?q=not+responding

I must say that I'm on IE 11 now and very happy.

Works flawlessly, similar to IE 9 and a bit faster.

No iexplore.exe processes hanging, (after the tweaks I mentionned earlier).

Almost a month now since I installed.

Will report back if anything comes up.

Regards,

I like IE 11 much better than 10 but still don't use it often.  It is my default browser though.

I'm currently trying to crash the Norton toolbar in Chrome, but so far I'm not having any luck.  :smileysurprised:  :smileywink:  :smileyvery-happy:

After uninstalling Firefox, choosing to save my bookmarks and reinstalling on both systems I haven't seen this problem now for weeks.

For me it is solved.

Well, I snagged a crashfirefox executable off bugzilla and ran it everytime i hit the problem. (they should have plenty of dumps)

But I decided to try the route you took with a clean install....getting tired of messing with it.

They must have introduced something inadvertantly in the update process if a clean install takes care of the problem. Hate

the thoughts of possibly having to clean install with each release but we'll see.

So far so good and thanks for the update!!

Been over 24 hours with no crashes. Clean install apparently is the answer.

Stick a fork in this one :)

The crashes seem to be coming back, once or twice a day. Maybe i'll just move to Chrome..sigh

This problem has been happening again fairly often.  I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled but that didn't help this time.

What a PITA!

Here we go again.  :smileymad:
