Firefox 55.0.1

bjm_:

I run and need to remain with Firefox 32bit. Will Mozilla continue to offer & support Firefox 32bit regular release channel upon Firefox 56 release.   Presume, my Firefox 32bit will be forced to 64bit upon Firefox 56 release. Will Firefox ESR continue to offer & support Firefox 32 bit when ESR moves to Firefox 56 ESR.

Hi bjm_:

Users with "eligible" 64-bit Win 7 SP1 or higher OSs and at least 2 GB of RAM will be able to opt out of the automated migration from 32-bit to 64-bit Firefox planned for September 2017 by creating a registry key as described in the Migration Opt-Out section of the MozillaWiki Firefox/Win64, which states:

Users running 32-bit Firefox on Win64 OS with at least 2 GB RAM will be automatically upgraded/migrated to 64-bit Firefox 56.0.1. 32-bit Firefox users that do not wish to be migrated to 64-bit Firefox can opt-out of the migration setting a Windows registry key (added in bug 1386176) as described below.

If you have already been migrated to 64-bit Firefox 56.0.1 but prefer to run 32-bit Firefox, you can download 32-bit Windows Firefox 56.0.1 and re-install. Firefox will not attempt to migrate 32-bit users running version 56.0.1 or later!

I'm on 54.0.1 and run W7 32 bit. I just checked and it says it is uptodate ..... No force the update available so far as I can see so I assume it is staying there.

As for the future ....

I'm running FF 54.0.1 64bit. It doesn't seem to wanna update to FF 55. Keeps telling me it's up to date, with FF 54.0.1. Is FF 55 64bit available ?

Hi photo308:

You can try an over-the-top upgrade with the latest available offline installer downloaded from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/.  Just make sure you select the correct 64-bit installer for your region/language.

If that doesn't work, instructions for reinstalling and/or refreshing FF are posted in the support article Troubleshoot and Diagnose Firefox Problems.  A reinstall won't affect your user profile, but if your problems are caused by a corrupted user profile you will have to refresh your browser and reinstall most of your browser extensions.

I've made the change to FF 52.3.0 ESR Branch now to avoid some of Mozilla's lack of quality control.

+1.

I was one of the XP/Vista users that Mozilla automatically switched to the extended support release (ESR) in April 2017 and I wouldn't go back to the regular desktop version now that I've tried it. ESR is the stable version mainly intended for businesses and educational institutions.  It receives all security patches on the same schedule as the regular version but doesn't receive these incremental bug fixes that are always required for the "latest and greatest" feature updates.

Anyone point me in the right direction; before I dive into the FF Website, and reload a new, clean version FF 55.

Mozilla is rapidly going downhill in my opinion. no

It looks like there could be a 55.0.2 after all.

Constantly freezes, not responding, bookmarks lost, all bookmark commands do not function.
** want to understand the impact before pushing to <= 54 users or to do a 55.0.2 release

Ah hah ! enlightened

Dear Mr @F 4 E,

It simply means I am watching very closely what happens with regard to your previous (slightly off topic wink) post.  I am worried where this could lead.

Cheers!

Not even sure what that comment means ?

Krusty, if Trump attacks North Korea or the other way round, it probably won't matter when 55.0.2 comes out !

cool  These glasses do NOT mean 'cool'.

Krusty13:

Hi Alf.  Don't worry mate, 55.0.2 will be out tomorrow.

Just joking... Or am I?
