New Working Method to Remove “What’s New” Gift Icon from Firefox Toolbar

Recently a few readers reported that the method is no longer working in latest version of Firefox browser. For some readers, the icon disappeared but reappeared after some time.

Thanks to our reader "APM" for sharing a new working method to get rid of this "What's New" gift icon from Firefox toolbar and main menu. This new method works perfectly to delete the gift icon from Firefox.

Mozilla has warned Firefox users to update their browser to the latest version after security researchers found a vulnerability that hackers were actively exploiting in “targeted attacks” against users.

I ran into the same problem updating my other machine with PatchMyPC.

Same again.  It took three attempts after the update to get Firefox 72.0.1 to open without becoming suspended.

Hmm, I'm not observing as you describe.
Maybe, next time try update with Add-on/s disabled, as test.
IDK

Krusty13:

Besides that issue, both the last upgrade and this one failed to open Firefox after the requested restart.  It became suspended, and became suspended on the second attempt to open.  Finally on attempt three Firefox opened... X two machines!

I have not seen Gift button since reading about and now receiving 72.0.1
I'll post back if Gift button returns.

Hope all have a Gift button free day.

Just updated to 72.0.1. So much for deadlines to release new versions.

Well, just tried "What's new" page 'ignore'.

"What's new" page
After a browser update, Firefox might show an additional tab next to your usual homepage to offer more information on changes or new features included in the update. To disable this page from being shown:

In the address bar, type about:config and press Enter.
A warning page may appear. Click Accept the Risk and Continue to continue to the about:config page.
In the about:config page, search for the preference browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone.
Double-click on it and set its value to ignore.

Yes, the bloody thing just came back.  Why push this crap on people?  They show you 'What's new" after the upgrade.  no  angry

Krusty13:

@bjm_,

That annoying 'Gift' icon has come back and I have the about:config tweak set at false.  I found toggling that tweak True then back to False removes the icon.

Okay.  Please monitor "Gift" icon.  I did the false > true > false toggle before posting "What's New" "Gift" icon is back in Firefox 72.0 ... for me.  Thanks
