FireFox crashing after install

I installed OnlineFamily on my Macbook.

It not only failed to register the computer but I also now get a FireFox crash each time I attempt to download an attachment from Yahoo! Mail. IE is not corrupted and I am still able to download mail attachments from IE.

I have attempted re-installing and re-booting and it did not help.

I am also not seeing any activity other than a visit to facebook.

Please help.

Hi wh,

Hi.

I'd like a little more information to help resolve your problem.

First question is, when you say "IE" works, are you actually talking about Safari, or IE under Windows, or do you have a Mac version of IE that still works?  I'm going to assume that you mean Safari.

If registration failed during installation of Norton Safety Minder, it is strange that the Firefox component is interfering with your FF browsing, but it is possible.  Can you please attach here a Firefox crash log?  You can find this by running /Applications/Utilities/Console, then clicking on ~/Library/Logs in the Log List (left side of screen, show it if you have to), then CrashReporter, and then Firefox.  Copy and paste the text you find there into a reply to this message.

Next, I'd like you to uninstall Norton Safety Minder, and re-install it.  The uninstaller is in /Applications/Symantec Solutions.  Restart after you uninstall.

Make sure that you have downloaded the latest NSM installer from https://onlinefamily.norton.com.  Also, make sure that you have already set up an account there, and have your account information handy (email address/password) as these will be required when you install the NSM software.

Please let me know the results following these steps.

Thanks.

Alan Gilbert

Here is the information from Firefox -- it did not appear as a file in the location you specified but was available through a dialog box.

The crash is very repeatable and happens each time I download any attachment from yahoo mail.

Yes, I meant Safari works (not IE).

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

I uninstalled Symantec and Firefox no longer crashes – this isolates the problem as a Symantec problem.

Thanks for the extra info.

Please look at this screenshot http://img186.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20090923at948.png/)

this is what I am looking for from Console.

I have highlighted in my picture a crash log for a program called "Aderra"

but you can do something similar for Firefox.  Once you find it, please copy the information

in the right hand pane and either attach that as a text file here or paste it into a reply.

The information will start with something similar to the following (but I need the whole thing...thanks).

Could you upload a picture with better resolution or email me the picture.

I will try to get you more details tonight.

I have sent you a PM with the screenshot attached.  Thanks.

I dont see any crashreporter logs for Firefox.

It may be that Crashreporter is disabled for MacOS builds of FireFox.  Please see https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Mac_OS_X_Build_Prerequisites as it suggests compiler options like

# bug 491774. crashreporter won't build in cross compile
ac_add_options --disable-crashreporter

I did find another (syslogd) report in crashreporter around the same time which may or may not be correlated with this crash. I have pasted it below.

I would appreciate an update on the issue.

Thanks!

I am able to reliably reproduce this issue, and I am working on fixing it now.  I will post here as soon as I have a fix.  Thanks for your patience.

Please PM me your private email address so I can send you a new support file for NSM in Firefox.  I believe this file will fix your crashing problem.

Thanks.
