FireFox Doesn't Remember Cookies Anymore

I have been using NIS 2009 for a few months now.  Suddenly last week and without any changes to NIS 2009 settings on my part, Firefox no longer remembers cookies.  There are several sites (mostly online forums) that I like to keep myself logged on to but now if I close the browser, I get logged out (despite clicking "keep me logged in" the last time I log on).  Another major PITA related to this is Firefox no longer remembers how I like my Yahoo Mail reading pane configured.

I am not sure if it  this is coincedental or related to this issue but one day last week Windows informed me that I had no anti-virus protection upon booting my computer.  I opened up NIS and it said that it did not download the latest definition updates.  I tried to do a manual download but it didn't work/got hung up.  So I restarted my computer, NIS started right up and updated itself and everything was fine after that.

Now in retrospect, I am not certain but my cookie issue may have started up after this "incident".

Can someone please help?  TIA!
