Is anyone else seeing this since updating (said loosely) to FF 29? I've had this problem with every new version of FF since 25 and this is a new install of Windows 7 on two machines and a fresh installation of FF with no previous version. It has for the most part, cleared itself eventually, but in the mean time it is a PITA to have to end the FF process almost every time I go to open FF.
I have already tried all of the advice here - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-already-running-not-responding - but nothing has worked. This article although pretty old mentions NIS / N360 and Symantec IPS as possible causes - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Hang_at_exit.
I have also tried uninstalling / reinstalling.
Any and all suggestions welcome.
Thanks!
Edit : Here's my earlier post on the same issue with FF25 - http://community.norton.com/t5/Tech-Outpost/Firefox-25-Problem/m-p/1042855/highlight/true#M8348
Yeah, I am seeing the same thing. Doesn't happen every time, but only once in awhile since updating to FF 29.

Hi Krusty13
Next time you see the 'Close Firefox' dialog box, open the Windows Resource Monitor and analyze the Wait Chain of the affected Firefox process. You can find instructions on how to do this here:
http://windowssecrets.com/top-story/exploring-windows-administrative-tools-part-2/
(Scroll to the 'Using ResMon to cure hangs and delays' section).
Analyzing the Wait Chain may shed some light on what's causing the problem with Firefox. Here's an example screenshot from the NIS v21 beta testing where Internet Explorer was waiting on NIS to complete whatever it was doing:

Please give this a try and let us know the results.
Thanks
Hi elsewhere,
I've tried your suggestion but it didn't help in this case.
This is the result after closing Firefox.

One of the Moderators at Wilders Security forums posted a link with a possible simple fix.

I would prefer not to mess with my privacy settings at this point.
Hi krusty13,
I think that FF29 is a victim of bad programming code.
Even if you have been able to see the problem in Resource Monitor, it would be of no practical use because not much you could do other than killing the processes in taskmgr.
I hope for you that things will be better with FF 30.
Regards,
Hi Apostolos,
I've changed my privacy settings to "Never remember history' and so far I haven't seen the problem. I think it has something to do with FF not being able to clear history on closing, so choosing not to remember history solves the problem.
Cheers,
Dave
