I did what you said, but it wasn't there on hijackthis.
The coFFPlgn.dll file keeps on reappearing. I disabled all of my extensions.
This is a joke - Norton really needs to release a fix for this. Firefox has what... a 15-20% market share? Think of the number of customers that are suffering from this same problem and cannot figure out how to fix it.
------------------------
Mozilla suggested fixes include disabling a whole heap of my extensions (great!), or having to delete the coFFPlgn.dll file every time I log on.

Open CoFFPlgn.dll with notepad, select all the jumbled text and delete. Type some random letters and then save (to replace the Norton version). Then, right click, select properties and make the file read only. That way Norton can’t update it when you reboot. Thus, no red X from norton and no Norton presence in Firefox

Thank you for letting other threads know about this workaround. However, we do NOT recommend using this method to resolve the problem. Please see the following thread for more information:

Thanks!
Perhaps it isn't the best solution Tony, but it does work.
I've tried other things, and they work sometimes for a day before the problem reappears.
How would it compromise the security of my system though? Doesn't that file merely apply the Norton toolbar to Firefox?
This is really driving me insane and would hate to revert back to old Norton 360. I have done everything that has been suggusted to fix the problem where norton process will stay open and cause firefox to open with white window and nothing really works but i see the norton toolbar. I have tried to delete the coFFPlgn.dll and that would work until i restarted, then it just came right back. The toolbar also doesn’t appear in the addons for firefox so nothing more i can do there. I have also updated all my updates for norton and still get the problem where process is open. So that is not fixed. Anything else that can be done? I would greatly appreciate it.
Hi Burnzy
Try this:
Download hijackthis. Close down FF. Open hijackthis, and click where it says 'do a system scan only'. Next, when the results come up, scroll down to Number 3 in the list. This is a list of installed toolbars. Check 'Norton Toolbar'. Go down to the bottom and select 'fix checked'. Do another 'system scan only', and make sure the Norton toolbar is no longer showing in the list.
Reopen FF, and see if this has gotten rid of the Norton toolbar.
Let us know.
