Firewall Blocking D-Link Media Extender

i have a D-Link DSM750 Media Extender connected to a Windows PC over a wireless G connection - and it has worked fine for several years now.

about a month ago i upgraded from Vista 64 to Win7 64 and reinstalled NIS, and the Extender connected and worked as usual.

now the extender has stopped connecting - and when i run the setup to add the extender from Win7 Media Centre i get a message saying that Norton is preventing the computer from connecting to the extender  (the Norton 'Shield' also displays alongside the 'Next' button as i run the setup)

i have set the extender as "Full Trust" in the firewall trust zones, and i have also created an exception under the general rules to allow ALL protocols and ALL communications to and from the IP address of the extender.

even if i turn the Smart Firewall off, i still can't connect WMP to the extender... although the extender sees the network and connects perfectly in the MediaLounge mode...

i'm over my head now.... any suggestions?
